Undeniable is the fact that the PCP world today is vastly different then only a few years back,
The guns...what an unbelievable selection nowadays,
ammo...man incredible,
tuning/aftermarket...all kinds of mind blowing stuff out there.
But the most exiting stuff for me is the coming of High quality Hand Pumps at super cheap prices.
If you asked me a couple years back I would have said the only way to go was HILL.
Just now I finished doing a rebuild on my HILL and I'm thinking 300 bucks for the pump and almost 40 bucks for the rebuild Kit.
I just got one of the new generation Chinese pumps for Amazon Prime for 53.99 buck, and it works great ( I had one in a few years back for reviewing and I was impressed )
Anyway, I can buy 6 of this pumps for the price of a HILL and a pump for just a bit more then a repair Kit.
You know I'll be stocking up on several of this pumps ;D ;D ;D
-
And the industry is taking notice... with affordable compressors.... and refurb tanks....
All I wanted as. Kid was to have a few shots ready in a magazine like my AR7 .22lr....so i could bring the pain to the squirrels without noise. And now? Lots of options.... ways of filling.... candyland to me.... UNTIL I WAKE UP AND GET MY WALLET!! AND SHE SAYS "NO WAY" LOL!

Manny I bought the TAOUSA quite some time ago for about $125 and I have been literally abusing that hand pump since with absolutely no problems and still going strong. It replaced my Benjamin pump that I got with my Disco which was no good. I've since bought one of the stainless cheap ones in case the TAOUSA gives out but haven't needed it yet. That was when the super cheap ones came out at about $75 which is probably the same thing that you bought for $53.99.

there's a couple more available on Prime for 54.99

Manny a while back I seen where the price of the G7 has dropped considerably and that's basically what my TAOUSA is an exact clone of, I think the G7 is cheaper now than what I paid for my TAOUSA!

That cheapy that I bought actually came with water in it for cooling, it's never leaked water but I haven't used it a lot. I don't know if they're still using water in them now though. There are you tube videos showing how to change the water.

good pellets getting cheaper
i can buy 20 tins of jsb 8,44 and must pay only 164$ including free shipping
20 tins of .22 15,89gr with 500pcs each tin are only 222$ including free shipping too
but thats the only benefit living in europe.. when we talking about airguns.

Couple weeks ago went to rebuild one of my two HILLs because it stopped working and it was a mess, so I tossed it and will never spend 300 bucks on a pump ever again,
will order 3 more of those I just bought and with the Hill still standing will give me plenty of air :)
-
manny, when those hand pumps from china made available here in philippines by local vendors,, i bought 2 thinking it might fail,,i have one heavily used but not abused hand pump and a brand new one collecting dust lol..now i have the yong heng , so two of them are collecting dust

Manny your local conditions are about what we have had here in central VA this year (longest dry spell was 5 days), and my Benji pump finally gave up the ghost. Been contemplating just building an Ark to deal with the rain, but while I make a decisions about that, I just pulled the trigger on that pump you linked from Amazon since squirrels won't be allowed on board the Ark :)
Maybe I'll take the Benji pump apart and fix it after running my backyard through a dessicant air-drier :o ::)
-
Been using one of the cheap Chinese pumps for +3 years without an issue. figured I'd test it until it died....it didn't die....but the Hill pumps did die from neglect while I was testing.
I do take the rifles apart pretty often, and when I do open one up, it always gets a tube inspection. No rust in the air area.
I'd still take them apart if I were a tank or compressor filler...just not that trusting.

Very true Manny! I got my first pcp last December, bought another one a few months later and have been filling them with a Hill Pump and a Chinese EBay Pump, both work perfectly. I purchased the Chinese Pump so I didn’t have to switch a fill probe out and have never looked back since! My friend GAVE me a Yong Heng (he dropped it I fixed it) and have not used it to fill any of my pcp’s because the hand pumps are so simple. My next purchase will be a carbon fiber fill tank but in no rush as these pumps work well for me. Amazon sells a Taousa rebuild kit that I believe should fit the Chinese pumps if you don’t want to size the o’rings out.

Thanks Manny, I am going to order one to use with the Leshiy so I don't have to worry about my compressor failing every time I run it for 15 seconds lol.
-
don't hAve the right stuff to get my yong heng running where I'm at so I insult ordered me the backup pump I've been putting off for over a year. Just got the one you recommended since your a trusted source in the air gun community Idk why I waited so long 48bucks! I was thinking 300 or 300 to a new gun 54 dollars should have done this long time ago so I wouldn't be in the situation I am in now. new gun no air... :( thanks for the recommendation manny
-
.... since squirrels won't be allowed on board the Ark
But... but... but what will I shoot at then?
And they are so good fried spicy Cajun style!
-
Just waiting for this pump to come back available on Prime to order 3 more,...there's a few in the same price range but come under a different name, pretty sure they are probably all the same but just in case I'll wait, need to make sure of parts compatability as they eventually will break down.

My Hill gathers dust in the closet after buying a SCBA tank. Now-a-days I have a Yong Heng, but I know it will eventually fail, and I always have the Hill as backup. I will say my shoulders and triceps were getting YUGE and my cardio vascular system got a work out when I pumped the Hill. Maybe I should start using that thing again.

Yep,...win, win right there :)

my plan was to get a scuba tank and fill station, with whatever probes I needed for the rifles I was going to purchase. After seeing this, it looks like I may just order a pump for now while I save up for a tank. The debate on the tank is either a standard 3300 psi or go hog wild and get a 4500 psi carbon one...but at $600 bucks for the 4500 one, that makes my wallet whimper. :(
Thanks for the info...that definitely opens up another less obscene option for the wallet. And at 275 lbs, I doubt there's a pump out there that would give me a hard time.
Haha...talk about the advantages of being...fluffy. ??? ;D ;D

I am not trying to dog the OP but how is the Chinese copying other manufactuerrs and dumping products on the market cheap a steady advancement in PCP? Not to say getting something cheap isn't great but I wouldn't call that an advancement under this type of circumstance. There have been a number of advancements in PCP in the last number of years which is why I looked at this thread.
-
Pumps are not all he mentioned. Also tuning, ammo, and aftermarket parts. The thread just went the way of pumps also. Better pricing from anywhere opens up air guns and supporting accessories to people who would otherwise not be able to afford it. A lot of what we buy is in part or whole from manufacturers in other parts of the world. Advancement comes not only in areas of products and quality but also pricing.

You don't need to spend $600+
At one time I worked in a hydro shop and we all knew that CF bottles had a huge safety margin far beyond the legal 15 years.
Shop Ebay for a SCBA with a year or so left on it for $60 to $80. I actually bought three from a Canadian fire department that had been inspected within a year but only had a year to go on the 15 so in a way the bottle was 'covered' for three more years in 'peace of mind'.
The US 15 year limit is short but the same bottles are approved under European standards for YEARS longer, like 30.
You just can't fill one at a place that checks dates but you can continue to use the bottle if you fill it yourself with a pump or by a friends pump.
Just keep the moisture out of the tank, protect it from dings, do not let it get hotter than 125 F when filling or leave it in a hot vehicle filled and it will last another 5 or 6 or 8 years before you retire it.
Note that there is a DOT approved re-certification process: Digital Wave’s LEx™ life extension process, which is based primarily on Modal Acoustic Emission (MAE) testing technology but it is too expensive for us usually.
You should also read this report as it answers a lot of doubters questions.

Well, advancement doesn't always have to be the latest technology, in my books being able to buy a pump for just about the price of a HILL repair kit is a huge advancement in PCP shooting possibilities,.....also I mentioned all kinds of other advancements so you can always bring your experiances up if you like ;)

My man,
I don't care what kind of super set up you have, top of the line compressor, mega tanks,...IMO everyone should have a pump in the house,
@$%^ happens and air independence is, well....Priceless :) :)

++ that!
I have an 8 year old 3K, Hill MkII but have not used it for years, just cycle it every six months or so to keep it lubricated inside.
But I am ordering one of the 4500 PSI pumps as a backup because most of my rifles now have 300bar reservoirs.
Thanks for the lead, Manny
-
I was all set to get me a "NOMAD"....had my monies set aside ( I definitely think the NOMAD is a fantastic option and right in line with my opening thoughts of advancements in PCPs along with those other Chinese compressors )
but, man I can get 10 pumps for the price of one NOMAD ;D ;D ;D
.......Still, might get me one down the line ;)

There is definite truth in what you say, Manny. Very very true. 8)

I was very interested in the full size Air Venturi unit. Paying attention to Tofazfou vids, he just posted a real let down. It failed.
cedric has had it of almost a year now, however, working 6 days a week and long hours, it hasn't been used much . It locked up completely.
AirVenturi said that it was either the crank or piston rod. Seem they have the same issues as the little 300. buck compressors. GRRRR
Now he has to get it crated and spend over 200 buck to ship it back to Pyramyd for warranty work. OUCH!!!
Guess I will keep on pumping with the Altros compressor. Well over two years and it is a workhorse! If, and only if you have a good shop compressor, the 600+ dollar for compressor and shipping really isn't bad at all considering. ;)

Michael I figure if I get the "Shoebox" I would be much better off for filling tanks, sure it's slow but very reliable and time proven, oh I forgot to say noisy too but heck I've been putting up with noises all my life, it's not like I'm going to try sleeping with the thing on. ;D
