Title: The keepers...
Post by: Bryan Heimann on October 10, 2018, 06:11:33 PM
Time to pare down the collection.  Could use the extra cash, and I rarely touch the rest of them.  I really wanted to trim back to just two or three airguns, but i just didn't have the heart to get rid of these four.  From top to bottom, what it is, and why I am keeping it:

HW35L-  This is a vintage rifle, and could potentially be the nicest one I have owned, but that isn't why I am keeping it.  It's an unfinished project, and GTA member Royale (Roger) kindly donated a ton of parts to me- almost an entire gun, sans stock, trigger, and latch.  I owe it to myself and to ya'll to finish it, and I promised Roger some pellets when I recieved the parts, which I have not yet delivered on.  I would not feel right selling it.

Crosman 2100- You gotta have at least one BB shooter.  I chose this one.  Hard hitting bb gun.  The forestock is wrapped in one layer of two- sided foam tape, followed by one layer of flat MOBU cloth tape.  The butt is wrapped in a section of a MOBU "gun wrap", then partially wrapped in some of the flat cloth MOBU tape.  The gun actually feels quite nice in your hands with this stuff on it, far as I am concerned this is how she stays.  Might even wrap the rest of it.  I love this little bb gun.

Benjamin (Crosman) 397-  I just love this thing.  Probably the single most accurate air rifle I have ever owned.  Also has the most beautiful wood I've ever seen on a late model Benji.  Light and handy, fairly hard hitting rifle on just 5 pumps.  It's like the Marlin 336 of air rifles.  When I have the money, i want to put an adjustable piston and billet lever in it, and maybe ACP the valve.  It already does 2 good shots on ten pumps :)

Stoeger X3-  Just an all around great little family gun.  Kids can use it with no trouble, fairly accurate, not hold sensitive.  This is a true "kid's gun" that gets to stay by popular vote, not necessarily my decision.  But a keeper nonetheless.  I only wish I still had the old X5, they were great air rifles.

Honorable mention, didn't make the list-  Flying Dragon .25 cal XS28M.  The one I swore I'd never sell.  It would probably bump one of these off the list if it were not for my back problems.  But I could really use the cash right now, and I hate buying ammo on-line, plus I have hardly gotten any use out of it in a great while.  If you're interested in it, well, I already worked out a deal with a local GTA member for it.  Sorry charlie :)

The rest of them gotta go.  Will be posting them in the classifieds before too long.

What ya'll think of my list of keepers?  If you had to cut back to just 3 or 4, or even 1- what would you pick and why?

Wow...that would be a REALLY tough choice!

Right off the top of my head.....
I have two FWB124's, they are both wonderful guns and I love them.
The first R1 I bought, because it's the best pester I have, and consistently accurate- even on par with the FWB's.
The fourth would be a difficult choice to make.
It's between the old Diana model 45, the old Diana 35, or the first airgun I bought....a Walmart Airmaster77 made by Crosman...a plastic stock pumper.

The choice between two vintage dianas or a plastic stock crosman bb gun... very tough choice there!  Keep the bb gun plus a diana.
You can't get nothing for a used bb gun anyway, and you gotta have a bb shooter!

My 4 keepers:

Venom Vantage HW77K in .177
FWB124 Deluxe in .177
HW77K MK2 in .177
BSA Sportsman HV in .22

Took me a long time to get ahold of these rifles. I've got a lot of work into all of them and they just shoot too good to get rid of. The springers all have Oring piston caps except for the FWB, and it has a lightened piston. The Sportsman is all stock except for lowering the power to ONLY 30fpe LOL, and it has an unreal barrel.

No, there is no way, i probably sell my car before i sell my guns, now i only have an old volvo 945 but she also will be with me to hers or mine last breath, hm, trying to compare my volvo with my guns, wich is she moste like? Probably my fwb300s, big, heavy, not so fast, got some scratches but gets where you aim her, and reliably so most of the time...

My keepers?

MY PP700.  I was one of the first folks to get one here and she's my first overseas purchase (from Krale).  Laser-accurate and just the right size.

My Hatsan 95QE.  Nothing fancy unless you look at the stock.  Only seen a few airguns with lumber as nice, and they all cost about 4 to 5 times as much.  This one's also my go-to for pllnking with authority (.25 caliber)

My 2400KT- my first custom airgun... won't be my last from Crosman, but she's earned her spot.

To round things out, I have a mid-70s to mid-80s 760 pumper that would be my final keeper.  This gives me a .177, a .22, a .25, and a BB/pellet gun that I can enjoy.

Now if I ever can get around to having the right funds when a Beeman C-1 comes up for sale, I'll have another keeper.  Stuff keeps happening that prevents it, but I'll get one eventually.
