Title: Is a '77-'80 model 760 worth the time and effort to fix?
Post by: Goose on October 10, 2018, 01:28:38 PM
I ran across one at the flea market a couple weeks ago and watched a guy buy it out from under me.  We ended up talking later and I found that he'd picked it up for his daughter.  That led to an impromptu session on safety for her and a friendship being established.

We ran into each other again last weekend and he was toting a functional Daisy 880 that he'd bought to replace the nonworking 760.  He offered the 760 to me for his investment ($10) should I want it.

It's nearly pristine and everything is there.  It just doesn't hold air.  I had a 766-XL back in the day and it did okay, I just prefer solid stocks and a more solid feel.

Thoughts?

Be safe,

J~

They're fun plinkers and the metal receivers are great.
I say it's definitely worth it.
They're easy to work on in my opinion and if it is a manually cocking gun ( the first 3 in the serial should be a date code ) then you'll be able to put a currently available rifled barrel in it which they make for the m4177.

10bucks,  It would be mine.  I mean some screws are 8$ each.  check the price of just the rear sight.  yet repair  seals are priced  fair

They are, and with mac1 kits you'll get things you didn't even think of needing.

$10 can turn into $50 pretty quick.  But you won’t find any current production guns for $50 that are better.  Re-sale value is a different issue, but you aren’t buying just to sell.  I’d buy it for $10 if I didn’t already have a pile of 760’s and their ilk.

Thanks for chiming in.  I hadn't considered the worth of the parts.  I didn't know that there's a rifled barrel available either.  Thinking I'll pick it up and fix it as I've never worked on that particular model before.

Be safe,

J~
