I have discovered that there are moles in my yard. And I don't know how to go about getting rid of them. I think they migrated from my neighbors yard. I know shooting them is out but just what does a person do to remove them?? Pisin? Traps?
I am open to suggestions that have proven helpful for you.
I wish this was about shooting squirrels or something, but I just recieved a telegram from the local squirrels and it states that being it is so hot that they have relocated to Maine until this Fall. The little buggers didn't even say goodbye.

Most hardware stores sell smoke bombs for woodchucks moles and other borrowers, just put the stick in and cover any holes. Also you can wait for them to surface and shoot them or some people smash them with shovels. There is also several types of traps that will do the job, if you have dogs or cats I would avoid poisons. (They don't really go for the poison anyway)

Mole traps do actually work and there are more than one kind. If you were closer, you could borrow my dogs. They love to root them out and are quite successfull at it. But then I have to backfill the tunnels.

I put out the insect control with a broadcast spreader. It kills the grubs and the moles disappear for a few months.
I wish I could just shoot them, though.

x2 on the grub control

Moles are insectivores(worms, grubs, ants and other subterranean dwellers), so removing their food source will forece them to vacate. Also, the are very susceptible to ground vibrations, so a sonic type ground sound driver will work, until they get used to it.

i have had 2 different wise old men told me to watch for them around lunch (11 to 12) that is when they will be most active and moving about. both said you could actually see them moving/digging at that time.with some patience of course. they are pretty shallow. probably shoot them through the shallow dirt and not even have to bury them. ;D i haven't proved or disproved their theory. only passing on what i was told. i hardly have a yard. mainly rocks here on the mtn and no moles. ;D

Mole traps work but most of them use poison. We had tons of them at work. We would see black/dark "blurs" darting from one bush to another or from hole to hole. An director (woman) used to smoke outside and would freak out when she saw one. She made a big stink about it and within a few days an exterminator company came and put out many little traps and poison signs on the lawn. They got rid of all of them. That was about 4-5yrs ago and we haven't seen 1 since.

Thanks ya'll. Think I'll try the insect control first as it is may be the cheapest thing first and I can quit stabbing the tunnels with a pitch fork.

When I was a kid I would just look for the freshest trail stick a hose in it and wait till I saw movement. A couple jabs with a pitch fork no more moles. You can train a dog to dig them up but then you have monster holes to cover up ! we always tried to avoid the poisons with kids rolling around all over the grass. But they work, not as much fun though :-)

I am lucky my cat is a murderous villain, when we got her she got rid of the mice and the moles, what a killer! we were hoping she would be a good mouser and she is that and more.

I've used road flares with success. Just light, throw down the hole, and cover the hole. Watch the yard for smoke indicating other entrances/exits. Cover them as well. the flare will smoke em out or consume all the oxygen in their tunnels. Hope you don't have any natural gas lines buried nearby with leaks 8-0

I highly recommend the type of trap called the "harpoon type," which employs a trigger that is activated by the ground heaving up slightly when a mole passes under the spear, which consists of at least six needles on a spring loaded rod that shoots downward when tripped.
My family has used them for decades now, and they are positively deadly.

Those are some interesting traps and baits for various animals, especially the skunk one.

you could try dropping a m-1000 down the hole..... just wait for him to sho up and drop a m-1000 down on his arse... thatll take care of the problem.
