Title: Silver Streak
Post by: Yng@hrt on October 01, 2018, 07:09:16 AM
This gun has been listed for a couple days. Can't believe someone here hasn't snatched it up. A steal!

Got that nasty sticker on the stock and it’s been their 44 years!

So, does that mean she's yours?

If you look at the the second pic it looks like barrel seperation in front of the rear sight. It may be a reflection.  But it looks like the light is coming
thru between barrel and tube. The link doesn't work anymore. But its still for sale. Its on the second page.

^^^I looked for the pix...gone. You might be correct although HIGHLY unlikely given the seller. I know him well & if anyone would have spotted it, it would have been him & disclosed it. However, even at that, it is HIGHLY unlikely he would have associated himself with such a gun.

...found the pix...haven't a clue what you're referring to.

Didnt mean to imply its not advertised correctly. If i hadnt already bought
3 airguns this past month i would like to have it. I bought my first Sheridan
blue streak in 76 or 77.

No problem. If I didn't have my share of Streaks I would have done the same. ;)

I know the seller, too, & he has been A+ with me in the past. I don't buy Sheridans with that sticker on them.

This Dan is in no way a collector’s piece. It’s been around the block a time or two, & the decal has no relevance. It is a fine shooter at a very good price. Just my opinion.

Take that same gun in pristine condition & a decal ups the anti. Take a look at the pix below. These guns command a premium based on condition of the gun & their decal. So yes, a decal is fine by me given the condition of the gun.

I know from years of experience, that the sticker hurts the resale of a Sheridan !  Potential buyers will almost always decline one with the sticker. That is the reason Baker has held on to this one so long , & he has it priced on the low side . Now, if the buyer happens to have been born in the year that sticker was applied, it may not make any difference to him.

^^^Again...not all guns warrant a sticker, some do. Suffice it to say we can agree to disagree!

The way I see it is....
The serious collector will more likely want the sticker.
The guy that wants to own and occasionally shoot the cream of the crop in vintage pumpers may not want it.
And the guy that just wants to shoot one of the best pumpers ever made could give a rat's butt either way.
Guess who I am..
Hint: I don't own any hats with the tag dangling from them.

^^^I think your explanation was great til the end...why? Not once have I ever needled some one for having none sticker dangling guns. I have both & like them both. Is this an area folks should not dare tread? Off limits to gun collectors? I'm at a loss. What gives?

Sorry, didn't mean to strike any nerves... I was merely expressing my own preference.   ;)

I not sure but you folks may be talking about my Silver Streak I have posted on American Airguns. No the barrel is not separated from the tube. It looks that way because it was separated and it was resolder.

In case you didn't notice I'm buck-en for that 273... ;D

A question to those that faced the 'sticker' issue before, if one removes that sticker at this stage, the only way to match the shadow left behind is to sand down and redo the wood ?

That would be a killer for me to be honest.  Hang tags and a box are one thing but anything that changes the wood?

Pretty much  . If you refinish the stock, then you will want to refinish the forearm. The sticker has been on there over 40 years. I have had people ask me for for just a " good shooting Sheridan," & when I showed them one with the sticker, their usual reply has been, " Do you have any others ?" I do not have a single one with a sticker, in the stables.

Took out a couple of guns last night I hadn't seen in a while. The Dan & a Benji both with as new condition stickers. The Benji's looks darn nice but I have to admit, that Dan sticker is butt ugly.

In all fairness, if I had a gun with an original sticker on it, I would leave it on unless I planned to sand and refinish the wood. Just not a big fan of the stickers.

I would just leave it on there, too, unless I wanted to refinish all the wood.
Many of us have seen decals removed from cars & you could always see the imprint/residue, from the old decals. With some work , cars can be made to look pretty good again, but many times, not perfect. Vinyl car decals have not been around all that long so we don't know how it is going to look when removing a decal that is almost 50 years old, like the Sheridans are. I tell everyone, that if you want to remove those decals , to do so at your own risk, & prepare to refinish the wood.
