Title: FX Royale .22 - JSB 18 vs 25.4 Redesigned Monsters
Post by: mcoulter on September 29, 2018, 02:02:09 PM
It has been an embarrassingly long time since I shot my Royale...  At some point I saw a thread asking how the Monsters shot from a Royale .22.  So here are the results.  The Monsters did better than I recall them shooting the last time I was out.  The 18s still win out, but not by too much.

50 yards
12 shot groups
Unsorted pellets
Regulator 140B (2 turns out)
Hammer spring = 3 turns out (CCW)
JSB 18s = 887 fps average (32 fpe)
JSB 25.4 = 766 fps average (33.1 fpe)

Wind was variable. I tried to wait for calm periods, but it was never perfectly calm.  Oh, I cleaned the barrel well before shooting any groups.  The FX hates a dirty barrel...  :-)

The point of aim was the center of the bullseye for each group.

Matt, great groups at 50yds! I think she (Royale) wants you to shoot her more often :).

Nice shooting! I wonder if the smooth twist barrel doesn't get enough spin on them being alittle heavier. My Taipan seems to like both pretty equally.

Yup, I bet it would do better if I could push 'em at 40 FPE.

Very nice groups.  Might try cleaning the barrel before shooting the 25 gr. groups as well since you note that as an important factor for this rifle (making an assumption here that you shot the 18 gr. immediately after cleaning).  Might not make any difference but who knows?  Could clean again and shoot 25 gr. first followed by 18 gr. and look for any change.  Agree with need for more velocity (spin) for the heavier pellet.  How about some overkill-shoot groups alternating 18 gr. left and 25 gr. right to minimize any likely wind effect.

Hmmm, sure sounds like a fun "project"  ;-)

I've tried some of these too (redesigned 25.4),  but in the 830-860 range and they spiraled like mad at 50m.  I've heard these really need to be zinging to shoot well but I'm impressed by your results maybe I'll give them a go again.  This is also out of a .22 ST barrel.

You had issues at 50m already? Hmm from 800-950fps they've been a laser out of my Taipan Veteran Long. But thats a different barrel than your ST so maybe that's why.

Everything spirals like mad from my .22 Crown. Going back to Airgun Depot today... :-[

Yep, yeah maybe that's why?  Different gun and different barrel haha.  No big deal for me it shoots everything else well including piledrivers and i got it used for 50$ ( the barrel) don't know much about it.  Like I said I'll give it another try sometime.

Hi Brian,

How did things work out with your Crown?  Did you end up returning it?

They should get it today.

I'm hoping things go smoothly...
