Title: bought a broke YH......
Post by: gendoc on September 28, 2018, 09:32:15 PM
for spare parts and i found an electrical problem thats now repaired.
now since running, the crankcase has much more blow-by than my working original YH.
this unit does not have a crankcase vent...but has a make-shift fitting and hose with an orfice.
i removed this and installed a 1/4" hose barb with about 6" of clear hose.
i have had it running without building pressure just to check it running
with water circulating for cooling several times.
it didn't take long for it to reach 54c with no load...30-45 seconds.
my working YH takes 2-3min to reach 54c under load filling guns ??
tomorrow i will attempt to build pressure, but what would i be looking at to fix the blow-by problem ?
bought this for spare parts or maybe repair and use at hunting camp this year.
 thanks for any info.... ;)

If it builds heat that fast under no load you may have a bad bearing. Bearing drag could build heat fast. Was there any metal shaving to be found or shinny spots?

when it came to me, the crankcase was drained. i filled it with the correct oil to test, then drained to look for any debri...found none... ???

Take a look at the seals. They could have put who knows what O-rings in it. If the seals are the wrong size that could be the problem. Also look at the voltage if it is 220 and you have 110 going to it that will build heat quick. If it is 220 and you have 110 going to it it will run at 1/2 speed.

i will look at the seals.....the unit is 110vac from factory.
motor runs good like my working YH.

would i be better off just ordering this

dont open it up yet,, heat build up has something to do with the cooling system/water pump,, my yongheng wont go above 50•C with 8-10 mins running time and thats starting at 3000psi plus load

John try setting up your cooling system like mine,,its a bit crude but very effective

i have this one cooling from a bucket also. when i get it to work as it should, i'm going to build another self contained cooling system like my original YH has.
i believe that the high crankcase pressure needs attention before i go building another like this.....

i mean you have to improvise a cooling tower,,where the exhaaust water is precolded befire it gets back to your main water reservoir vessel

I'd pull the head off and check the piston ring orientation. There should be 2 rings. I clocked mine 180* apart. If they're lined up that could cause more blow by than normal.

In talking about the large piston for low side compression. Not the small brass one.

thanks,
i'm going to pull it down after i get parts in hand. researching that now... ;)

I was tempted to buy the one that Mi Yeti had posted in the classifieds but decided against it, not so sure I want to buy a Yong Heng after all the problems that I've seen people having with them.

If you baby them they are ok. You have to remember you get what you pay for :D If you do not want to baby it just add a zero to the price for a better one.

The Omega Air Charger I think would be a more trouble free compressor no doubt but I plan on using it to top off my SCBA tanks because I really am liking working with PCP's for hunting purposes.  The Omega is about three times the cost of a Yong Heng.  I recently watched a review of the Omega air charger by Southern Gunner after his three years of use and I was really impressed.  The review showed that he hadn't had anything major in that three years time and he's got a collection of PCP's that are unreal.  I would probably never push one as far as he has in that three years of use.  It's very true that you get what you pay for.

Your heat maybe just breaking it in. These things are mostly set up tight & just need to be broke in some. My Vevor ran a little hot when I first
got it. Not extreme but enough for a little concern. But once run in it is fine.

My yong heng was beat to death by the previous owner then sold as "new in open box" on ebay. I would not have bought it if I knew what it was really like(seller used stock photos), but I at least got my money back. I don't think all the issues I had were any fault of the compressor but rather how it was treated before I bought it. It seems fairly well built other than a couple things that bug me.

Where it came from...do they have hard water.

This was my issue, I have VERY hard water....you almost have to chew it.

You will get the coating of white on the innerds and if you have the hoses he used for the pump they will have white on the inside as well.  After about a month mine started to build heat very quick.

What I did was run vinegar in mine...this will take out the calcium and magnesium....and your unit should run cooler....then just use distilled water.

Positive note your compressor will smell like pickles for a while.
