Title: If it looks too good to be true, It usually is.
Post by: GreyBeard1851 on September 23, 2018, 02:49:39 PM
At first glance, I thought I had found a deal but I think this seller is selling a $29.00 scope for $63.00.

The pictured box appears to be Hawke but no model number is stated.  No scope matching this description appears on the Hawke website.  It is shipped from China.

I found a scope that appears to be the one in the OP...........

The cost in British Pounds converted to US Dollars is $91.72 but I have no clue about the shipping costs.

Hawke does offer a scope with similar specs (4-16x50) but it's the Vantage model and looks different and costs $209.99 with free shipping from Optics Planet................

LOL.......the scope in the ad "offered fer cheap" shipped directly from China is very puzzling!

Anywhoo, all the Hawke scopes I've bought in the USA have had packaging like these...........

I ask the seller about the box.  This was his reply:
"Hello there,
The box of this product is exactly the same as the one shown in the picture.
Thank you"

I have heard that Hawke scopes are made in China.  Makes me wonder if someone is eliminating the middle man.

The Chinese are very good at copying and selling cheap. Quality however, not always so good!
In this case they are even using a legit trade name, with a different logo!I have owned several scopes that are made in China, and some are actually VERY good quality with etched reticles, and very clear glass, but usually they are not cheap, even by Chinese standards. And yes, HAWKE also manufactures in China (some of their scopes). You really have to be selective when buying off brand products. And YES, if it looks too good to be true, it usually IS!
Cheers

Did anyone get one? I looked closer at it. It's not just the Hawke box. The scope is stamped Hawke in several places as well FWIW. Counterfeit? Good deal?

About a year ago I bought a 4-16x50 China Hawke and it is different looking from those advertised above. Here a a couple of pic. It come in scratched badly from the included rings that were in the same box. They let me know that it was a CHINA HAWKE and was not related to the ENGLISH brand. It is mediocre at best.
I do buy ZOS scopes that are Chinese and they are fantastic. You pays yore money and you takes a chance.
