Title: Do NOT get your pellets from Amazon!
Post by: UlteriorModem on September 14, 2018, 03:12:10 PM
I recently got a tin H&N "Field Target Trophy" pellets in .22 14.66 grains.

I loved these pellets as they come out of a couple of my different guns consistently with good grouping. So much so I figured I would order a couple of more tins. I looked on Amazon and saw .. "Wow I can save 2 bucks!" and ordered 2 more.

Well the pellets arrived in two days which is nice but I knew as soon as I picked up the box something was wrong. Label on the box says "Amazon Fulfillment" so who knows where they came from. But! they just tossed the two tins into a box about 1/2 shoe box in size with no padding whatsoever! That's right the tins were just rolling around in the box!

One of the tins had such a big dent in it that the lid could not be opened! I pried it open with a knife blade and some pliers and had a look at the pellets.

They were in surprisingly good shape yet many of them had damaged and mis shaped skirts! I would have to inspect them one by one as I would not trust them to come out of the barrel in some cases!

I should have taken pictures but I was remiss.

I don't know what the packager was thinking, maybe they hate air gunners and don't give a darn! But heck even some paper or those air pillow things for crying out loud!

I really hope I get one of those emails from amazon "Were you satisfied with your purchase?". Heck no!

From now on I will get my pellets from a reputable source a forums sponser that packages them carefully! It's worth the extra 2 bucks!

HI Tom,
I had a similar experience with them.  Mine arrived ina plain manila envelope and no padding.  Luckily there was no damage.
Still... call Amazon customer service.  They can be really helpful.  With me, they 1st gave me a refund on the damaged items, then the rep "said" that they will make a note in future to always pack these items for me in a padded box.
Not sure what will happen next time, but they did take the time to listen to me and sound apologetic.
Mike

Just standard Amazon shipping. Here's how my pellets and a scope came.

After one time of a nearly similar experience, I will no longer ever order pellets from Amazon.

I did file a complaint and got a replacement tin that was better packed, but not worth that frustration when Trenier, Pyramyd, and several other vendors have demonstrated the right way to pack pellets.

I've only done it a few times, but JSB's in a bubble wrap lined envelope have arrived unscathed......until I dropped a tin on the floor on its edge that is. ;-)

Makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one to pull that trick.

Don't order pellets from Amazon!

I've only had one experience where they were damaged. It was only a few that were bad. I figured saving 3 to 5 dollars in some cases and getting them quick and free shipped out weighs the small amount of damaged pellets I had. I just reformed the skirts and they were more than good enough for plinking. JMO I like shooting cheap, so anything cost effective to the damage ratio is good for me.

They ship Dr. Pepper (with sugar rather than corn syrup) the exact same way and no it did not survive.
They must save millions per year by not using ANY packing materials.  :o

No no no. I wasn't ridiculing you. I was just punctuating that Amazon is NOT the place to buy pellets. Pyramyd Air, Airgun Depot & Trenier ARE the places to buy pellets. Their shipping packaging is done right.

I just ordered a Tipton Ultra Gun Vise from Midway and all they did was slap a shipping label on the tipton box and sent it out. Luckily it made it ok, but come on!

Oh man. Been there and done that. Never again.
I ordered a bunch of stiff including some .22 FTT's. The other stuff arrived separately. The pellets arrived in a huge box with barely any packing. The pellets themselves almost had the painted on print on the lid of the tin rubbed off from the trip. Pellets were in horrible shape.
I wrote a review saying what the situation was and how they could fix it. They told me they couldn't publish my review because it wasn't a review of the item itself. I rewrote the review and they still didn't publish it this time without any explanation... Horse pucky.. Never going down that road with Amazon again.

I have ordered a lot of stuff from Amazon not just pellets and their packing is sub standard to say the least! I have had to return many items due to poor packing but for some reason I have not had a problem with pellets.

My friend's daughter took a high level job with Amazon.  I sent pictures of a larger than shoe box size box with one or two bubble wrap sections in it and three dented tins of pellets with a full explanation of how pellets need tender loving care en route.

I hoped she would move on my information.  The next time I ordered pellets, same thing.

I called customer service and spoke to a person who assured me my next order would get "special" attention.  It came to me in a smaller box with NO packaging what so ever.

Amazon is a loosing fight.  It is amazing what a few bucks cheaper on an item can do even if it has to be sent back, sometimes numerous times, to get it right.

If they could clean up their packaging problems, they would be unbeatable, but it appears they wouln't.

They wont until they get enuff complaints about it! If everyone would file a complaint with there customer service department(which I have done on a number of times) then things might change? They wont change any thing until it effects there bottom line!!

MidwayUSA ships their pellets the same way Amazon does: either loose in a padded shipping envelope, which is how my 4 heavily dented tins showed up or a box with next to nothing for padding in it. They also don't listen any better than Amazon does about how they ship them.

Do not order pellets from either MidwayUSA or Amazon, no matter how good the deal might be.

Pyramyd Air with the Buy 3 Get the 4th Free deal and use the GTA discount code GATEWAY-PYRAMYD to save yourself 10% (which usually ends up covering the shipping costs).

Airgun Depot which has the same Buy 3 Get the 4th Free deal.

Talk to Jeff at Trenier Outdoors depending what brand pellets you're looking for: https://www.trenieroutdoors.com/ (https://www.trenieroutdoors.com/)

I have a way of getting good packaging on Amazon Pellets.
I recently made a purchase on Amazon (washer part) and as long as I was there took a look at H&N pellets that I am low on... Hoping this will be the 3rd time with success.
Now, here is what I do... at the bottom of the listing will sometimes be other sellers that have the same product listed on Amazon. " Used & new (X) from $X.XX ".
If you click on that it lists the other options. Low and behold, Field Supply, PA, & AGD all listed.
You don't get the 4 for 3 deal or Bullseye Bucks, but you DO get the awesome packaging.
 https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B003M4Q54G/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all (https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B003M4Q54G/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all)

Now, if I get the correct head size is another thing as it is not Specified in the description but the search yielded that and others have received the same 5.53 I want.
Not a show stopper either way as I have two guns that prefer the 5.55.

Why not go directly to PA or AGD you ask? Well these got snuck under the radar in with  Washer parts and my Financial Advisor (SWMBO) won't be the wiser.
Unless she reads this post. ;)

I got a UTG scope well cushioned on sides, but in that same box, so any impact on either end would have made it into a concertina

I'm still not clear why you folks get mangled pellets when you have the OPTION to specify the vendor on Amazon.  Never had banged up pellets come through.  IF they are thin-skirt pellets, I specify Pyramid as the vendor if I'm buying onesy-twosy.

I also won't order JSB or Air Arm pellets through Amazon, because they use such soft lead.  C'mon folks, common sense.  Crosman?  No problem- especially since everything I own shoots some type of Crosman with a good modicum of accuracy.

Got 4 tins yesterday thru Amazon Seattle area. and they were packed OK. The tins did not rattle but the pellets in the tins did a bit. Don't think any packing other than the foam 100 round packs will stop that.

Went through something similar ordering pellets from Amazon but I came out pretty good in the end! https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=132260.msg1317975#msg1317975 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=132260.msg1317975#msg1317975)

I had good luck with Amazon Canada. Never a problem with packaging. Only problem was they all got to expensive all of a sudden. Now I shoot Grizzly & Crosman flat nose pellets that I get in two different places at a reasonable price. When you shoot daily pellet prices add up quickly. M pellet guns never leave inside of my house. Some play video games where I do the real thing. I also have a  bow that never leave the house.

Amazon supposedly uses robots to pick the goods off shelves and pack in boxes
they obviously make no distinction for items like pellets which may seem sturdy in the tin

As a follow up to my tactics,HERE (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=148301.msg1511589#msg1511589) I received my two tins of H&N FTT .22 pellets bought off Amazon but third party from Field Supply.
Packed in a small box, with two pillows and a bundle of bubble wrap.
Inside the bubble wrap (triple layered) was the two tins... and those two tins were shrink wrapped together!
Delivered safe and sound, no dents, no loose pellets, no regrets.

So... lessons to be learned? Amazon may not care, but if you buy from a 3rd party from them and know who is good, you win. Compared to PA / AGD... Field supply gets an A- ! ;D
