Title: eBay carbon fiber tanks
Post by: rotorwag on September 13, 2018, 02:14:15 PM
Anybody have one of these?  The price seems pretty good so I'm wondering if there's a catch.  I'm new to cf tanks so advice/experiences appreciated.

Odd that the seller doesn't state the volume of the tank?

Kinda like selling shoes without giving the size  ???

Those are Acecare tanks - made in China and they are fine quality. Iorman is the company name they use on ebay and amazon, as far as I can tell. I have a 6.8L bought directly from Acecare off aliexpress. Most of them are not DOT-certified but if you are filling yourself, that's not an issue. They usually have the Euro standard valve thread instead of the US one, though lately I've seen them advertising US standard threads as well. Also, in the middle pictures you can see the sticker - that tank is 3L.

I use this 3L cylinder for field fills. Great size, fits in most daypacks, uses less bench when tethered. Great for day trips.

No DOT (I self fill). Coarse valve, very difficult to slowly open. I put a restrictor in tank.

So a dive shop or paintball place wouldn't fill them?  I don't have a compressor.

Many won't without DOT.

Bigger issue is 3L volume will make for more trips to the shop, which would need to be close.
I think a larger volume with DOT would suit your needs better.

-OR-

Just get a hong yeng or vevor compressor if your just using it at home. Cost is less than the cylinder, which you can then add later no DOT needed.

@rotowag - ymmv, but I believe dive shops and fire stations are not supposed to fill them unless they are DOT-cert (and up-to-date hydro tested). Thane makes a good point - 3L won't give you too many fills before needing it refilled.

If you don't have a compressor and don't want to buy (or maintain) one, then I'd probably recommend buying a DOT-cert tank for your fills. As you no doubt have read on this forum, you can get a used tank off ebay. Alternatively, here's a 6.8L tank, DOT-cert, with everything you need refill your gun (you may need an adapter to connect to the dive shop filling station, depending on what they have in-house). It's $360 with free shipping.

I just got one of these...

Something I failed to notice is that there is no bleed valve on it, like on my 6.8l Air Venturi bottle.

Fortunately, I noticed it when I was filling it, and was able to bleed the hose with the valve on the compressor. If I had just blindly attached the full bottle to my gun and filled, I would have to shoot it down to empty so that I could disconnect the hose!

You have to add and inline bleed valve to you hose, or replace the top with one that has a built in valve.

I had about decided to just bite the bullet and get a DOT one.  I had not heard of that website; thank you very much!  That is a very attractive price!  Think I'll order me one.
