Title: In search of...
Post by: VaporTrail on August 27, 2018, 10:34:30 PM
Long walks on the beach, candle light dinners....

Wait. Wrong forum.

Just kidding.  ;D I'm looking for a decent powered PCP that won't force me to sleep on the couch eating bread and water for the next month.

I'd like it to be a carbine flavored weight and length...with the capability to shoot .22-.25 pellets in the 40-60 FPE range. Preference on the 60+ FPE side. I've been looking at the Flash really hard because of the carbine similarity, but the FPE leaves me wanting. I suppose I could try and have it tuned (I have no tools to do that kinda work myself) to get into the 50 FPE range (is there even anyone that can do that?).

My goal is to put down some porkers. 60-70lb range. Head shots within 20-25 yards, of course. Is that goal too lofty?

What rifles can you all recommend? This will be my first PCP, so I'd like to have something that will grow with me on this journey.

Thanks

You can get 50 ft lbs out of a stock marauder.25 with a heavier hammer spring and basic tuning with the factory instructions. Price wise it’s a deal that’s hard to beat. Use a hard pellet like the Benjamin domes, know the skull anatomy of a hog and be patient for the brain shot.
It’s longer, but hatsan USA has refurb deals on the bt65 .25 and has a .30 right now for 499. Easy to hit 60 ft lbs with the bt65 with spring adjustment but it is a bit longer gun. However , looks like your in Guam? I don’t know if you have a dealer or service center there for air rifles, so if not, I’d use caution buying a refurbished model. I personally would lean to the marauder .25, read up and learn your gun and it’s tuning aspects. Crosman has great service, and there is a ton of aftermarket upgrades.... for later.. when you make it off the couch 😁

Sounds like you described a Sumatra, and maybe a nice comfy couch along with it  ;)

Lol...come on now. Is there really no hope? Dang couch...it visits me far too often these days.  ;D

And yep..I'm out here on Guam. There is absolutely nothing in terms of an air rifle servicing anything.  :(

I was starting to look at the Marauder and it's tuning capabilities. However, I've also been eyeing the Sumatra and it's knockdown authority. The BT65 I also gave some consideration...but am yet to crawl on the fence to sit on it...all due to the weight.

I was looking for a carbine so that the shorter length and lighter weight will help me with keeping it steady off hand.

Oldpro...my budget is 700 and under. Preferably under.  :-[

I know the family that runs that shop...and no offense, but their prices are a little steep for the pocket.

A tin of CPUM .22s run $21.95 there. Wanna know how much a Marauder costs? $1400.  :-[ :-[

I'd definitely go for a Sumatra then in your situation if price will work which I think they should!

Wow!! ,with a crazy mark up like that, I guess the RainStorm II (which is a Carbine) is out.  :(

Dairyboy - the Sumatra does sound good. I'm liking the compactness and the power.

KnifeMaker - The only guns I've seen for sale here are Gamos, Crosmans, Benjamin, and the odd Beeman breakbarrel. The rest probably aren't even on the map for most of the people here.

and just an additional piece of jibber-jabber:

The Rainstorm specs on power is exactly where I want to be. It's a little heavy, so I'm wondering if it'll turn me into the Incredible Mr. SpasTastic again when I try and shoot offhand. But it is quite the tempting morsel.

And yes...mark up is obscene. The Benji Trail XL is going for nearly 500 bucks. I'm almost glad that they don't bring in the other brands...can you imagine a $1500 Rainstorm? A $2500 FX?   :-[ :(

Two options first a Kral PB with SS valve or a Evanix RS 2

thanks, oldpro. The evanix is a little heavy for my tastes, but I do like the power. The Kral PB is a nice gun too...but it seems a little down on power?

How about the MaximaThor? I really like those numbers since I can use really heavy pellets, but we go back to the weight issue again.  :-[

I guess what I'm really trying to achieve is Ruger 10/22 specs. I'm a laser with that thing and I've already dropped some pigglies with it. The last one was a touch over 100 pounds.  8)

The sight stays trained on the target with no wobbling whatsoever. For as accurate as I need to the shot placement to be, I'd really like to eliminate the "guesstimation" and anticipation.

But that's just me.

That kral puncher breaker with the ss valve will be light, and powerful.

If your not into the bullpup, he has a valve for the kral puncher mega.
There are a lot of options for you.

ok...first off:

oldpro: I am sorry that I did not look more into that SS valve for the KPB. Holy. Smokes. That is one screaming gun. Wow! The only meagerly excuse I can offer up is that I am doe-eyed newbie to the new era of this sport. How would one go about getting one of those monsters with the SS valve? Is it something I can install myself without setting my eyebrows on fire and becoming the second coming of Ghost Rider?

oneshot: I thank you for the link. To say I am impressed with oldpro's KPB is an understatement; and I would have never been the wiser to their capabilities had you not turned me in that direction. Thanks!
