Howdy-doo!
A question for you fellow pumper freaks..
Ive been perusing different oils and their properties to find what seems to be optimal for our intended purposes (anti wear, anti corrosion, sealing, viscosity, etc.) Has anybody here ever experimented with a heavier viscosity oil, particularly with a flat top setup? If so, what did you find? I've recently switched to an " x profile" o ring, and because these tend to carry extra oil in their groove, I'd think them maybe a little picky about viscosity.

Hi William,
I've been using SAE 30 ND for summer and SAE 10 ND for winter in my pumpers, with good results. You may want to try SAE 20 ND (compressor oil) in your pumper for hot weather. I know some have used ATF in theirs with great results too, and you may want to try Secret Sauce sold by Mac1, though I have no personnal experience with those two. I no longer use Crosman PellGun oil, too expensive for what it is, and according to Tim of Mac1, and by my personnal experience with old air guns I bought and restored, it builds crud inside the gun.

hapymecanic to the rescue again!
Yeah, I can't bring myself to buy a quarter oz tube of something that I could get a quart of for the same price. Have you ever tried anything heavier for the sake of experimentation? btw, what kind of orings do you prefer on the piston? I'm giving both viton 75 and urethane a shot. These x rings I can't find in urethane, it'd be nice though. I'm not 100% sold on these yet, but at least 80%. They definitely are outperforming standard profile so far.

This is the only oil I use. Lots of info why out there. If you think the cost is more than you can buy a quart of something else for , your right. As an old and true saying goes..."You get what you pay for." Compared to the cost of your gun and ammo and a cup of coffee this is the cheapest part of air gunning.
Go for it......

That comment was primarily a pellgunoil reference, I have given some serious thought to the mac1 stuff, Timmy I'm sure has already done all the legwork that I am now attempting, and apparently done it better...

Got a quart of 30 SAE ND 6 yrs ago for my QBs & crosmans CO2 + 2 pumpers and probably got 30 yrs supply left.

And while I got you guys here, is it common for FT Pistons to Hog oil next to a stock cup? Didn't seem to need as much for full performance.. My AGS setup is still far superior regardless.. 😎
