Blaming this on PA sale and Manny and Chris. I’ve been following Manny and Chris’s post about the 30 rainstorm. Then my birthday and a side job and PA sale all came at once and .... it showed up at my door. Along with some Nielsen swagged, 44.75 and 50 jsb. Polished the barrel and hammer and off to the range. Three scopes later( there’s a reason two stayed on the shelf) and I was getting some decent groups at 50 yards. I ordered a .299 noe die and all my groups tightened up. I have a .298 on the way to further test the swagged, though I’m getting some good groups with the occasional odd flier. Being speed sensitive, I think flattening the string will bring them in line. First shot over the chrony was the 50 jsb@ 957... no adjustment, adjuster flush with the back. Next 44.75@ 991, stock setting. Wow! I cut to much off my spring so I’ve ordered two more, but I can get any where from 800fps with 44.75’s back to 951 with 50 jsb depending on what I want to shoot. I’m going to focus on the swagged slugs and have a bbt mold in the works. I’ve also ordered some music wire to make some dual wire springs for testing, and hopefully have a mds hammer built next month. Manny and Chris have covered about every angle on the Rs .30 and did a fantastic job. Not sure I can add anything, but I am anxious to see what the dual wire spring(thank you Tim!!), mds hammer and a little valve work courtesy of the info on RKR’s post on the Evanix tuning, will result in.
Notice in the picture of the inside of the stock, they have installed a screw for support. Not sure if that’s PA or Evanix, but it’s a great idea. I ask Pyramyd Air to pick out a good stock, I think they did a fantastic job. Great service, fantastic gun!

Nice stock indeed,
Yep Evanix has added that screw in the grip a few years back

Oh Man, That Stock! Jealous, Yep!!! ;D ;D

Followed RKR's post as well. Performed the mods, and WOW!
With no other changes, went back to Non Reged velocities. Picked up 90 fps on the NOE 34.8 pellets, and 100 fps on the test bullets I cast from a decked Lyman 257420 mold. 8)

If I’m not mistaken and speaking out of turn, rocker one can. I’m sending him the hammer from my jkhan(rainstorm).
Man that’s nice power out of the rainstorm! I radiused the war valve in my armada and picked up 40 ish FPS. Great mod. I’m going to open the .30 up a tad and radius the valve. Nothing radical, just improve the flow.

I removed the poppet return spring. Had to crack the bottle wide open to seal it. Also opened up the path way from the air tube to the valve . A LOT, Now it is a wide open shot from the reg to the valve intake. (now that the return spring is gone, didn't need the smallish pass-thru to hd the spring which was out of alignment anyway). Opened up all pathways to .201.
The bbl port is oblong to keep the pellets from tipping when loading. Radiused the valve pathway to the block.
Thinking seriously of putting the mono block into the mill, opening up the thru hole, which will of course make the threaded barrel clamping hole much larger. The re tap it and put in a larger set screw for securing the bbl.
If I feel Froggy, I may very well turn the block on its sides and put two more set screws two on each side. You cant' secure a bbl. too well.

This picture is courtesy of QVTom here on the gta who converted his .22,rainstorm to a .30. The upper right hand corner of the hand drawn circle is the area that gets radiused. Instead of air having to make an abrupt 90 degree turn, it will now flow around a smooth corner. Hope this helps.
Michael... my friend rick did that to his Evanix sniper and got another bump in power. Just retapped for a larger screw.

Finally took a day off and was able to do some more testing. I focused on the Nielsen 47 and 55 grain slugs. When testing I size to .299, shoot lubed and unlubed, ...unsized lubed and unlubed. Best of the day, unsized with lube. These slugs are more speed sensitive than pellets of coarse because they are spin stabilized. I’m shooting the 55 grain at 860 on a nice 7 shot bell curve until I get my new springs in. The 47 grain did not do well in any form of testing. I may need to push them faster than 900 FPS to stabilize them in my barrel. I’ll find out tomorrow evening as I ran out of light for my chrony to operate. Best group of the day shown with 7 shots @ 50 yards, 55 grain @ 860.
For now I’ve left it shooting the 50 jsb @910 for a nice bell curve on a 7 shot mag. More slug testing to come!

6 shots in a super tight figure 8 pattern at 50 with one little flyer looks pretty darn good with those bullets.
My 95 FPE .30 likes those Nielsen 55gr too and absolutely loves the 50gr JSB.

I’ve seen Manny’s and Mike’s threads, but I don’t think I’ve seen Chris’. Can someone link it or let me know what the title is?
Thanks,

I’m really exited about the 55 grain. The flier is easily me. I was resting on my range bag. I have some shooting bags in I just don’t have anything to fill them with yet. The pellets shoot very consistent @.299, and I’m not giving up on the 47 grain yet. I don’t know what the bc is on the 55 yet but sometime this week I’m going to try and get it. When my springs come in or my music wire, I’ll try a hunting tune with the 55 grain. Have you used them yet on hogs ??

OK not a .30, ( I wish) but same everything else, only in .25. .
Got a chance to shoot some of the NOE Pellets today. The first mold had issues, but Swede replaced it FAST!
Was testing slugs and went to the pellets. Not very good. Well, DUH! I had the gun cranked up for the slugs. Turned it down and was rewarded with squirrel kill'n accuracy.
groups from the first mold were disman. Man what a difference!

Far too much tin in them. Added a lot trying to get pellets from the first mold to fill out.
Purer lead should increase the weight by at least half a grain. ;)

Ordered in some springs from amazon. 3” long .063 wire .48 Diameter. Cut to just give me a 1/8 gap and started testing. Very small adjustments make a big difference. All I have is 44.75 with some more 50 jsb on the way. Settled on this setting and locked in the adjuster.

Fell off from there into the mid 930’s.
I’ll keep it there until my 50’s come in and ordering some more of Nielsen’s 55 grain. Bbt is out to be hollow pointed and another light bullet mold in the works😉. Previous testing, this put 50 jsb at about 920.
I thought I was ordering 2 springs and I got 2 bags of 10😳. Anyone wants a spring for their own testing, send me a pm. I’ll have about 10 left over.

That is a pretty sweet string !

With the design of the sear I don't think MDS will hold up. You may get a premature fire. Jkan, rainstorm and Kral all use the same hammer sear set up. The stock hammer is only around 50g anyway I believe. You can chuck it in a lathe and drill a 1/4" hole down the center to lighten it and keep the ledge for the spring. That and polishing will likely get you better results.

Been thinking of using a carbide end mill to plunge the front of the hammer to insert a Peek striker to quieten it a bit.

That’s a good idea! I may try that before I send it out. I have a will Piatt depinger on the way. I installed an ldc on mine and it went to 91 decibels. The ping is more noticeable now

Added an ldc and a 45 degree rail with a mini red dot. Couldn’t spend a whole lot on an ldc at the moment so I got one from eBay. I have one of his for my armada and it worked suprisingly well. It took my rainstorm down to 91 decibels.. honestly didn’t expect that. I would like one about 4–/2 inches long but a larger diameter. I think there are some others who make them and when I can, I’m going to get one. This one is 7 inches long, a bit longer than I would like but I’ll deal with it for now. Put a Bushnell 4x16 ao with the cf500 reticle. The mini dot works fantastic!! Tilt the gun slightly to the left and it’s right on point. Sighted for 45 yards, it’s perfect for quick shots.
Compared to my jkhan .22 they are really close in a lot of ways. The jkhan stock is a bit beefier with the Evanix being a bit more slim in the mid and forearm area. For me they shoulder the same.... and the ldc fit them both😁. Light and fast to shoulder, both of them power houses when needs be. I’m becoming a huge fan of Evanix.
-
WOW, ...nice stock on that Storm.
-

Yes! I am grateful... makes my jkhan stock look sad. It was black soft touch before I refinished it but, Im Much happier with the current finish.
-
Had a chance to shoot today, unfortunately I forgot to take pics before I left. However, after adding the ldc, the 47 grain Nielsen swagged tightened right up @ 50 yards. Right on par with the 50 and 55 grain Nielsen. I’m trying to order some more 50 but having trouble getting through as they are listed as a sample pack but nowhere individually 😳. In the meantime, I have my 66 grain boat tail hp coming in mail. Rick Morrill shot them out of his modified sniper with a rainstorm.30 barrel and showed me a nice quick 50 yard group shot at 850 FPS. When they get here I’ll get some on target and get them posted out of my rainstorm. Only mods are a short stiff spring. Also polished the hammer to a near mirror finish, polished my spring and tube. I’m hoping I get a little better es.
Btw... those who wanted springs ..they are on the way.

that BT with the HUGE HP is
Nasty Looking. LOL!!!
Woo-Hoo on the springs. Turns out the highest fpe is at 2400 psi right now. Driving me nuts. ;D

Yeah, it looks wicked!! I’ve done some water jug testing with some of the bbt hp... holy moly, do they ever expand. I’m going to do the .25 48 grain and this .30 that’s coming.
I think the spring will open things up for you especially with your mods. After I test the bbt I may take mine to .203. I think it’s at .180 at the moment. I believe Rick has his at .203 , pushing the 66 at 850 @ 2600. I’m sending him a spring to see what he can push them to.
-
You lost me Daniel, what is .203?

Man,I'm brain dead tonight. Got ya. Mine is still at .201. ;D 8)

My 66 grain .30 bbt came today.... and I’m working...and it’s raining. But I did it any way. After a few trial shots, some spring adjustment, shot this group at 50 yards. 800-810 FPS. Honestly.. I can’t remember if it’s 4 or five shots. Looks like 4 with 2 in the same hole at the bull. My dot fell off the wet cardboard box so I’m holding it back up. I’ll get some better groups on a better target, I just couldn’t wait. A little heavy of a bullet for this gun in stock form, maybe around 62 grain would be better, pushing just over 900. It won’t be stock for long, nothing radical though. I’d like to see these around 860- 880. It’s heavy but I’m sure it carries its energy deep. Bc is somewhere around .150 if I recall correctly.
-
Nice! Is the hp from NOE's system, or did you send it to Eric?
Knife
-
Sent it out to Eric. I think the noe version is about 62 grains? I don’t see it on their site though. I have another mold coming. Accurate mold 58j. Should be here soon. I’m going to have part of it hollow pointed, should come in around 55-56 grains.
-
Eric does fine work! 8)
-
Look what the postman brought😁. My 58j mold for the rainstorm! Going to have one of them hollow pointed after I see how the fp shoot. Have a similar mold for my 357 ace... it’s the bullet in the dual picture, and it’s really accurate out of it. Have high hopes for the .30 mold. It’s off to Rick Morrill for some bullets! I was pushing a 61 grain modified bbt over 900, with a good mag full at 870, so I have hopes of this doing the same.
-
I like the looks of that! A shame they won't make a mold under size for us in .257 or .25.
Did the final fire lap of the .25 bbl today. Followed the Wheeler kit with damatious earth in fp-10 for 20 shots, 10-clean, 10 clean. and finally 20 shots with flitz rolled on bullets just like the wheeler kit. Man did this barrel wake up! First three shotts again, thru one hole at 36 yards, with the next two touching the hole in a nice clover leaf pattern. Stoked!
Moved to 50 and shot a nice tight 1/2" group. Cam get a good 9 shot group if i adjust for drop after shot six. Drip at 50 yards is about 1" or slightly under.
Tried them at 80 yards and put 4 of 5 into a 1" orange target dot, with the 5th just clipping the dot. All fine accuracy so far. And should prove fine Squirrel medicine. LOL
-
Finally bit the bullet;)... and got a Donny fl .30 sumo in for my Evanix. Man does he ship fast! Checked it with my phone app sound meter. I’m at 88 decibels shooting jsb 50 grain at 920. That’s 6 ft in front of the muzzle and a foot to the right. That 3 decibels down from the one I had on it. I have yet to install the depinger and I believe that’s where a lot of my sound is registering from. I swapped the existing ldc to my jkhan as I do have a few marauder baffles installed in it.
The sumo is very well made and does a great job. In my opinion, well worth the money. Nice to be able to take it apart and clean it. At 6.25 inches it’s also a bit shorter than the one I had on it. If I get a chance this week to install the depinger, I’ll run another test. I’m expecting lower numbers.
-
Donny makes some might fine products. Fine choice! 8)

He should really consider making reflexed LDCs tho,
if that LDC come back covering the shroud all the way to the air tube it would look so much better.
-
Yes for the looks of the rifle I agree. Those things work on the big bores though, my .357 Ataman is the same sound as my Veteran.25! Nice on my Slayer also. Need to get one for my Jager .30.
-
I agree Michael,.. he makes a fine product.
I thought about a reflex, but I’m adding a 300 cc tube to this and my jkhan so I wasn’t sure what length of shroud I’d have left to work with.
It is quiet and it just makes the ping sound that much louder. Btw coolhand, I grew up near you and went to fox high. Lived on a family farm and love the woods there.

I have one of his setting on my gun room and no time yet to install it. Taking next weekend off so it’s going in then. And I’m thinking of ordering another as I think it will fit my jkhan also.

Yep, Sure does! Looked into them. But he is very proud of them. Far out of my reach of a depinger. :(
JSR has them for 1/3 the price.

I put one of jsar depinger gets in my armada.. totally eliminates the ping. Maybe the kral depinger will fit my jkhan and kral mega. I thought it was for the bullpup... are those tubes the same diameter??

-
I finally put the depinger in from Will Piatt. Ping is GONE!! And with the sumo on, man this thing sounds like my marauder! I have it pushing Nielsen 50 grain .30 @ 925. We have some hogs tearing our feeders and some coyotes on our lease. Counted 32 hogs at one feeder😳. Their going to get head smacked in the morning if they show up. Sighted in late today for 50 yards.. the distance from the stand to the feeder. I struggled with taking my 308 Cothran or ace 357, but this time I want to see what the .30 Evanix will do. I’m out of the Nielsen 55 grain so it’s going to have to be the 50’s. The picture is 1 mag, 7 shots @ 50.

I sized them to .299 and my barrel has been polished, some tuning with the new spring, that’s it. Nothing to radical.. yet. It likes the Nielsen 50,55,60 and a 66 grain bbt hp. Unfortunately, doesn’t like the Nielsen 47 grain.

Thanks Manny... pa info is not always complete per caliber. Went hog hunting this morning, .. killed a nice bush 🙄. Ricocheted off a limb I didn’t see in very low light conditions, hit the metal leg on the feeder.. it rang like a bell and they split. I’ll leave them alone a few days and go back. Update on the .30 rs. I’ve sent it off to have the ports opened up and discovered my “new” rs from PA had a valve that had already been opened to .203 complete with the marks from what looks like pliers on the valve. Probably why it came shooting so hot. The barrel port however was still at .195. Opened it up and now it’s pushing unsized 66 grain bbt at near 900 FPS which will put it at 925 sized to .299. I have a pair of Wilson combat flat wound springs, 17 and 20 lb, waiting to try in it when it gets back this week. I will run some chrony test with 50 jsb, the 60 grain fn and 66 grain and post . It will push the. 44.75 well over 1000 FPS now so a spring swap should bring those down to accurate speeds.
-
Hey Daniel! Got the RS .257 up to 986 fps/107.96 fpe with the 50 gr NOE RD today. This with the new poppet I made from the PET-P. Still playing with it, and the uncut spring you sent. ;D 8)
-
Man you’ve got that thing smokin! Nice to see that coming along as a repeater. I would love to have a .257. It just seems to be the ultimate long range caliber for a lot of different game. I like the power of the Texans, but not sure about the style of that rifle. So a repeater is really appealing.
Received my tracking number for the rs today. 2 day shipping so I should have it Saturday. Just in time for clear weather and some shooting time. Really hope the flat wire springs work out.
-
The barrel port however was still at .195. Opened it up and now it’s pushing unsized 66 grain bbt at near 900 FPS which will put it at 925 sized to .299.
Now that is super nice in a traditional style rifle, IMO (ie not a typical manufactured repeater or direct flow system, not that there is anything wrong with that). The RS in most any caliber really has to be just the best in class (price, style, versatility, etc), IMO.

I agree. The more I shoot the .30 and my jkhan(rainstorm basically) all the positive attributes just keep adding up. Versatile, smooth sidelever, accurate with a variety of ammo and easy as a carry in the woods.
Rick has a 357 sniper that he has installed a .30 barrel and probe in. The 357 valve is larger inside dia than my 30. He’s pushed the 66 to 1025 FPS. No info on the curve, but the ports are .250. I like what Michael is doing on the .257 conversion, and am considering a conversion myself. I’m curious as to the difference in the valve size of the .25, 357 and possibly the .45

Wow, thats interesting. Less work to perform.......... ;D Are the mags the same width, ie just change out the .357 for a .30 mag in this situation?

This has probably been pointed out/discussed, but sure Manny either knows off the top of his head or can just pull out from his Evanix air-mory ;D

Talked to Rick this morning, he doesn’t have a .30 mag, but said his 357 mag slid right into place into my .30. So I’m thinking the 30 would fit the 357.

So I have a few numbers although not definitive, still very promising and more to come.
Ports at .203 3k psi . Spring was preset.
.063 music wire spring cut to1/8 gap between the hammer and valve stem. Adjuster flush to the tube . 3000 psi, 50 grain jsb. 933,932,936,938,936,930,927.
1/4 turn in and nearly identical shot string with 52 grain eppug from Rick Morrill sized to .299. (the 52 are accurate. I’ve shot some 50’s that were not) This puts it at just over 102 ft lbs for 7 shots.
60 grain 854 -7 shot bell, same spring set
66 grain 825 - 7 shot bell, same spring set
Next test will be at 3200 psi with 50 jsb, 52 eppug, (pic below) 60 grain and 66 grain bbt hp. I will have a new spring,(pic below) ss,.072 wire cut to leave a gap for free flight. The goal is not max ftlbs or FPS, but max for 7 shots for hunting. Then detune with a spring for 85 ft lb with pellets. Haven’t tested yet for max cliff power.
Also my valve has not been radiused inside at the port. That will be on the next tear down. Should be good for 30 FPS or more according to RKR’ s findings on his Evanix??
-
Thats looking good! And at 3200psi, you might get a mag of the 66gr bbt up to 850-ish.
-
Thanks Chris. Just going by the max @ 3k he text to me, the 60 grain hit 870 unsized. I hit 854 on my curve with this spring, sized. I think he hit 910 @ 3200 with the 60 unsized. Guessing? I’d say 890 on a curve with the 60 and 875 with the 66. I wish I had some 62 grain bbt from the noe mold. The bbt are moving much faster for their weight compared to the 60. 60 grain pic below.
-
OH, Man!!! that spring is doing the business!!! The spring you sent is doing well, but can't use it in free flight. this new one you have sure looks to fill the bill!
I decked the .257 mold further to throw at 44 grains.
Getting very good accuracy now. And decent, sort of shot string.
They look a lot like your Pic on the left. Only with the addition of a crimp groove.
Free flight would help this I think. Still working on different poppet profiles.
Toned her down to 915 fps, and it really helped for a 9 shot mag. ;)
Looks like your learning a lot with this .30 Daniel! 8)

Hey Michael.. I have that ss spring coming that may be just the ticket. I compressed this spring for about 6 hours, then cut it in hopes of no radical set under load. I’ll do the same with the new one. Heavy spring is the ticket for free flight and standard or mds hammer in this gun. I forgot to weigh my hammer when I had it out. The one in my .22 is 38.4 grains. I’ll weigh the .30 tomorrow night. Once I get a high, medium and low spring set up, the last two things will be an mds hammer and radius the valve... then I’m done🤠
Your getting 80 ft lbs on a nine shot string! That’s really good out of that gun! Is yours 250 cc? I would love a 300 cc tube to go to 3200 on this one. I have a kral 330 cc on my mega that may fit .. but no way I would take it over 3k. Another 80cc at 3k would be nice. Not sure if the threads are the same on krals tube as the Evanix valve. Evanix list theirs at 230 bar on their website. Only reason I’ll go to 32 on it. Probably run it at 31 when I’m through testing.
-
Daniel, I remember Travis saying one of the reasons they decided to not carry Kral was the tubes were not the same thickness in the entire tube. Thin and thick spots if I remember right. He didn't trust them.
Yes, the 250CC if I remember it. Wish I had the chance to get oine of the larger tubes Airventuri had for a short while. I think manny said 280cc's?
Wish this thing was a bottle gun. 500 cc's, WooHoo!!! No idea way PA quit carrying them. Would have been a natural. 8)
Mr Lee says 3325 psi for the Rainstorm II's, sooooooo---

Daniel, I added a bit to the post just above yours above this one. ;)

Daniel, I added a bit to the post just above yours above this one. ;)
That’s a good tip. I had to do that to my fill port poppet. Put my poppet in a drill, shaved it with a new sharp chisel, then jb bore paste as I turned it in the poppet housing. Saved the day😉

Work is taking all my daylight hours lately, but I got about 30 minutes to run some testing with my new ss spring. My thoughts are that unless I’m shooting for one mag at high power with the 66 grain bbt it’s a bit to strong for a decent non peaky string. Even with nearly 1/4 inch free flight my spread is 27 with one shot in the middle causing all the problems. 908-937-899 FPS over 12 shots, jsb 50. It’s just pushing the hammer to fast. However.. I tried something quickly today and preliminary testing is promising. I inset a strong magnet into my stock, centered and near the back half of the hammer at rest. I think because of free flight it has a chance to slow the secondary hit to the hammer. I was able to get three more shots over a 900 FPS threshold. All testing was at 3050. Next testing will be with my 18 lb spring with the magnet installed. I’m looking for 14 shots over 920... hopefully..then take this to 3200 psi and test for a high power 7 shot mag.
-
Now that's thinking out of the box Daniel! 8)
Went to a dual spring system, your spring cut and a Maximus spring. Set to give just a touch of free flight.
Set her for low power, at 840's and got two mags of 9 each for 18 shots that give a very nice cluster hovering around 1 inch at 80 yards in this terrible wind today. Slower seems to fight the wind much better. Just as Bob predicted.
Used 1 inch target dots, and could keep them inside the dot. Woo-Hoo!!!
-
18 shots in an inch at 80!!! That’s fantastic! Well done Michael. I’ve never used a dual spring setup.( by that I mean different windings, not shorty’s dual) What is the advantage of that?
I’ve got to add another magnet in the same place on the opposite side to make sure I’m not dragging the hammer down one side. Ill have a chance to shoot tomorrow afternoon for another 30 min and I’ll put the 18 lb spring I set back in at 1/8 free flight. And one mag at max to see what it will do. Ain’t these Evanix fun;)
-
Daniel here is what I did, borrowing form RKR and Hobbyman. Worked fantastic! 8) Well, until the valve stem chipped out again. Allowing the valve face to contact the metal cage around the poppet. GRRRR! Going to implement RKR's fix for that. ;)

Good thinking with the magnet . Like Mike mentioned , a dual spring set up is the way to go . I picked up 4 shots in free flight and can still add preload for big power if need be . Got to love the Evanix action ,much easier to work on than most . No need for fancy valves to make power and still easy to cock .
-
Question,
What's the trick with dual spring ? can they be 2 springs of the same size ?
-
Many, they can be, but then again, as the coils are next to each other, coil bind is not very far away. Hard to get full power.
However, using a smaller inner spring, no danger of coil bind, and you can select any rate number you want. ;)
I crudly turned down the spring guide in the front to hold the aftermarket maximus spring. Turned it down for about the first 3/8" length to hold it in place. The spring itself acts like a guide for the larger dia. stock type spring.
Mike
-
I see, so you need a spring that fits inside the stock spring then.
-
Yep, Manny, I think the stronger Maximus/Disco springs sold by Magnum AirPower, and Possibly Discos-R-Us should work very well. ;)

Thanks Denis, been thinking about the magnet deal a while. I’m really loving this Evanix..hard to beat these smooth sidelevers.
And thank you Chris. I have another tuning adaption to try as soon as I get it worked out ;). I’ll be insetting the second magnet tonight and have all day to shoot tomorrow.

Daniel, any updates? 8)

Sadly, no. Solid work and raining like it’s trying to strangle frogs. I’m setting on go though. Looks like Saturday is sunny and I’m taking 1/2 day off. I have a new chrony in as I’ve shot my other one 3-4 times. It still works but after reading a post from bullfrog about his misreadings after dropping his, I began to question its validity. Tanks are filled, barrel will be cleaned and the hammer, tube rebuffed , spring polished and ready to go.
I’ve also been looking for someone to sell me some of the 62 grain bbt .300 if anyone has a lead on that please let me know.
-
I filled the rainstorm to 3200, still have the ss spring in with only one magnet. No time to dremel out for the other one today. I should have went to the 3240 listed on Evanix site.(actually it’s 3335) At the end, I lost one shot. 50 jsb sized to .300.
918,920,924,924,925,932,925,920,924,926,922,920,916. 13 shots, 3200 psi to 2460. 740 psi, 56 psi per shot avg. 94.55 ft lb average. This setup loves the 3200 fill. One more tuning thing to try, then I’ll turn the probe and radius the valve.
Looks like efficiency at 1.58.
-
WOW !!!!! .....that is awesome, bunch of shots and real good power indeed.
-
Wow, thats awesome!

Really enjoying playing with the .257 TJ's barrel. Too fast of a twist really though.
Thought about contacting AirVenturi and getting the price of a .30 barrel and mag. ;D
that, or fit allonger .257 barrel "IF" I can find a slower twist. Only other option is go wit a .22 barrel with a slower twist and size down. GRRRRR!!!
Daniel, I am loving the results with your spring and the added Magnum airpower maximus spring. Working fantastic!
Both cut to allow ust under 1/8" free flight.
Tried it today backed all the way out for pellets, (NOE 34.6 gr. ) and they shot well out of the 19" TJ barrel.
Would love to get a 24" .257 or .25 barrel for it.
Mike

I have a 25” ( I believe) .257 tj 1-14 in my shop. It’s still in the rough (not crowned or ported). I’ll look tomorrow and measure the length. I’ll ship it to you, and one of my stainless heavy springs. Late merry Christmas 😉.
-
Daniel, the added length would allow me to shoot longer bullets in order to use the 1 in 14 twist!
Wow!!! Mega thanks Sir! :o 8)
Just WOW!!!

Such a shame that this thread ended. There has been so much more done and learned.
Now thesting a .223 barrel, adn have a .172 to install next. 8)

I have enjoyed it and what I’ve learned. I’ll add another magnet to the other side and radius the valve and slim the probe. That’s about all I’ve got left until a better valve comes along. Maybe if someone would extrude home a radiused valve, that would be nice.
-

I am sold on the extrude hone process. I Wonder if anyone has used it in an AG application. I would be very interested in the results. ;)
-
Daniel, I have been thinking of trying a different set up for a magnet bounce stop system.
Plunge mill the face of the valve face to fit a super magnet with a hole drilled thru it for the valve stem to pass thru. Do the same to the face of the hammer.
Now place, (adhere) the magnets in such a way that they repel rather than attract each other. This should in theory stop the hammer from rebounding and hitting the poppet pin a second time. ;)
Mike
-
You read my mind I use the stick on application just to try it and it works well but for long-term use what you’re describing is what would need to be done and it never wears out
-
I'm having issues build power with the .223 barrel in the RS II at 20". Worries me for the .172 build. GRRRR!!!

I made 100 fpe with 24" barrel and barrel size porting with my BSA so you should be able to reach 90fpe. What's your goal and port size? Are you using very light bullets?

On page 2... r 621 for the hammer face, r622 for the valve face. Ordering some to inset into an mds hammer that rocker1 made. I think with the short stiff spring in the rainstorm I can epoxy it to the hammer face and not lose much stroke length. I don’t have a way of milling that hardened hammer.
-
I know this is an old topic. I would like to know what molds were being used and if they were sized or not? Also were they pure lead or an alloy? I want to start casting some "accurate" slugs, and have "plumbers" lead.
-
I’ll check on the molds. My friend Rick Morrill has them and cast for me. Pure lead though. I size to .299 or .300.. accuracy improved and speed picked up a bit.

Thanks Daniel, I just ordered some NSA's in .30 54.5gr and .25 in 26 and 29 gr. Bought the gun new in 2015-16 and shot maybe 1/2 tin of pellets through it. Would like to finally get around to tuning it for accuracy and try the NUAH club.

You have a rainstorm.30?
-
You have a rainstorm.30?
Yes, It's been a "safe queen". Less than 1/2 tin of JSB's through it since I bought it from PA. Second PCP I ever bought. Side lever is like butter, ruined me on my Hatsan BT65 .25. ;D
-
Actually it's a Rainstorm II with the thumbhole stock. ;D
-
Sweet, love that thumbhole stock. I’d like to get my hands on one. These .30 rainstorms are keepers.
