I have mostly a collection of older vintage air rifles but I have coming a newer Benjamin-Sheridan C9A pumper that has the current cartridge valving system, I’m sure. I heard they have gone to brass which is better but is the design of the valve a good one? Seems to me it is so much better to be able to just drop in a valve than the old style soldered valves. But are they as efficient and powerful?

I have a 392PA which still has the aluminum valve in it. It was hitting 645fps, in stock form, until I put in an adjustable piston from Mac 1. It now does 685fps on the same 8 pumps with 14.3g pellets. I have a brass valve in case the aluminum one does not hold up, but it has done fine going on 5 years now. I coat it with some silicone lube when I replace O rings and have had no problems with aluminum corrosion. It is much easier to work on than my 342 or 312, and is more powerful with the adjustable piston installed to reduce headspace in the pump. I also installed an O ring to seal exhaust port to the tube by drilling a recess for it in the valve.

I’m assuming the 345fps is a typo. The Capsules are so cheap and seem way easy to install, I’m not in need of a lot of power just a backyard shooter.

Right it was 645fps. I fixed it. Its fun and easy to tinker with these valves if you like to experiment.

I agree if you screw up a capsule not much loss. But 645 is more than I need. Lol
