Title: What does the SE stand for on a Disco barrel?
Post by: Stinger177 on June 04, 2018, 06:19:10 PM
So I'm about to do another 1389 restoration and want to order a .177 24" barrel from Crosman. Part #1760SE-001 (Discovery barrel) is what I'm about to order. Apparently this is a newer part # over 1760-001, so my question is...what does the SE stand for?

I'll be cutting the barrel down to 14.5" to match the original smooth bore length on the 1389. These are nice little shooters and despite the weirdness of the flip-over pellet seat, I find them much faster to cycle, and the other 1389 that I just finished restoring has every bit the accuracy and power of my modded 1377.

Anyway, what does SE mean please?

Thanks

Just a WAG, but it may be a leftover stamping from the discontinued 1760SE rifle. Or maybe to tell it apart from a Challenger barrel on the assembly line?

Maybe you can tell me something- is the 1760SE barrel the one w/a flat at 12 O'clock that is about 17" back from the muzzle?

Just did a quick image search and came up with this attached pic. It appears that it is what you are asking about.

Just noticed that you did an edit after I copied your quote, but it's all the same thing. 6.25 or 17", take your pick, haha.

That explains it- much better detail than the Crosman EVP, so thanks! Hope you get an answer, I'm a little curious as well...

My guess : SE  -  Special Edition.

Yeah, I realized stating the distance from the end of the breech wouldn't be very helpful if the barrel was w/o a breech. But yes- same thing basically. :)

Considering their affinity for ruining the rifling at the muzzle, my guess is Scarred Exit.

Even Crosman couldn't answer this question when I ordered it.

My guess : SE  -  Special Edition.

So does that imply that there might be an LE (Limited Edition)?

Considering their affinity for ruining the rifling at the muzzle, my guess is Scarred Exit.

So it's a good thing that for my application I'll be cutting it down to 14.5" from the muzzle end, which will then be the breach end.....add a lead, finish and crown the cut end and all is good :D.

This is for another 1389 resto-mod.
