Title: Second ghog
Post by: bowdoc64 on May 31, 2018, 09:23:21 AM
It's been a minute. Shot this one at about 25 yards. It was in a tree/fence about 10 feet off the ground. Hit it with a hn hunter and it dropped then did the in brain hit dance. It was brain hit pellet hit low and behind but because of the angle it hit the brain. Pellet expanded to .321 inches. Not bad. It did not blow apart like in the 10 foot water trap test. I really do not think it expanded much more then the hn hunter extreme did when I head shot the other ghog. I

Like most of my tests theory now paves the way for fact. A pellet that over expands in most close range test will be perfect when shot at game at common hunting distant. I do have to ask myself hn exsteem or hn hunter i really do not see the standard hunter being better so far

Great shooting on that young G-hog Drew!  What caliber?  .25?  That's very decent expansion.  What is the FPE at the muzzle?

I have a pretty big one that keeps visiting and checking the empty burrows on my property for other G-hogs, but won't move in permanently under my tool shed.

22 cal and I cranked it up so I'm shooting between 29 and 30 ft/lbs

Great shooting Drew !!! I seen a couple Ghogs about a hundred yards off this morning, tomorrow I'm bringing my SPA M16 instead of my Prod, it's better suited for far off shots like that.

I grew up in NH and never saw a chipmunk anywhere higher than a stone wall. I come to SC and the chipmunks climb trees all the time. But woodchucks too?! A quick check on Youtube yields bunches of videos--wow, they do it pretty easily!

Learned something new here.

Yes they do and the crazy part is I had just read they climb trees. If i had not just read it I would have never knew this one was a groundhog
