Title: humane kill with the Plinkster
Post by: nervoustrigger on May 30, 2018, 01:44:57 PM
Okay so I recently posted about my first pest outing with the .177 Plinkster.  Despite being tuned to a piddly 6fpe, no one called for me to be lashed twenty times with a wet noodle for braining some chipmunks with it.  But for those of you who held your tongue, here's a less controversial application of this power level.

I was out practicing with it on my 43 yard target and I noticed a couple of house flies zipping around and landing on the target.

My first two attempts were misses.  But not by much.  ;D
Number 3 produced a rather satisfying smudge:

Normally I like to focus on shot placement but to be honest I'm not quite sure where this one landed.  Judging by the spatter, I suppose the shot was a bit low and to the right.

I'll admit it helps to use plenty of magnification:

Still, it's a $100 gun and a $40 scope.  A bit expensive by flyswatter standards but rather economical for an air rifle.

I'd say you're gonna ha e a bit of trouble dressing that one out.  ;D
Maybe you can make some stew with it ?

Great shot Jason !

Far more impressed with this than I was with the Bug A Salt  ;D

Tell me more about that $40 scope ?

Jason, excellent shooting especially on that fly @ 43yds! Was just wondering what recipe to use for splattered things!? :)

Thanks Jerry!

Wayne, you're up next right?  Big game with the CP2?

Ron, I tried to scrape up enough to make a stew.  Mrs. Trigger didn't find it as amusing as I did.

Eric, the scope is this one:

The reviews are mixed but I'm delighted with mine.  If it had been $100 or $150, I'd still feel the same way.  It has surprisingly clear glass and holds its point of aim when I adjust the magnification or the objective lens.  Granted, I wouldn't chance it to handle the harsh recoil of a springer but it works great on pneumatic rifles.

Randall, thank you sir!  I'n still confused as to how to prepare this thing.  Maybe on a little clump of sticky rice with some wasabi?

Wow thanks Jason !  30 bucks today.  That’s a hunk of glass though. That would be alright on my Maximus shooting from sticks.

Yeah it's pretty big.  I'm a skinny guy but I'm so used to rifles the size and weight of a Marauder that the Plinkster still feels like picking up a toothpick.  The Maximus would be pretty similar.  I guess it just comes down to personal tastes.

Shame on you !!!   Is it not inhumane to not leave enough "parts" for a family to have a proper burial?
LOL.... good shot?

Haha, wow!  Just when it looks impossible that the price on this scope can go any lower. It’s sold under so many different names and it looks like one is forever undercutting the other.  So now for the price of a restaurant steak you can buy one.  That’s crazy.

True that, it was kinda like the Gauntlet itself, just slap on features and to heck with the final weight....

My go to for Cheap... er I mean affordable is the base Hammers, can't beat it including the one piece mount.  Some rifles I leave them on for good as a nice match,  but its an excellent initial scope if nothing else till you decide to go with something else.

I got mine yesterday, hung it on my XS-60C this morning and love it.  $29.99 clear glass, light weight.  I love it!  Just waiting for a fly to land now.

With my eyes being what they currently are I'll never buy another scope that is not AO.

I'm in the same boat.  This scope is AO.

Not only that, but as opposed to my Leapers 4-16x50 this scope is crystal clear on full magnification
