Title: "Economy" Scope Recommendation
Post by: Captain Bravo on May 29, 2018, 01:18:22 PM
Hey guys, I have a UTG 4-16 x 44 (I think) with end bell focus on my synrod 22.  I really want a side focus scope.  I use this gun for hunting and target shooting (informal) and I would like low magnification and illuminated reticle for hunting.  I like taking it with me deer hunting to dispatch squirrels quietly.  I hunt in a dense pine woods and it gets dark quickly in there.  I am looking at the UTG 4-16x56 Bubble Level.  It is $225 at Pyrymid and you get the side wheel for free.  Is there another scope in this price range that I should consider?  Is there a reason that I should NOT get this one?

Thanks for any advice guys.

I have the same one without level. The only downside is it is big and heavy!. It comes with high rings, but I use medium UTG rings on my Maximus and on my Trail NP2 that I previously had it on.

Nothing wrong with UTG, but I'm hearing very good things about these TAC Vector scopes from members here

If you get that scope hang onto your receipt - Leapers wants to see it for warranty service.  They stand behind their warranty REALLY well but will request proof of purchase.
I've done well with Sun scopes.  (http://sunopticsusa.com/ (http://sunopticsusa.com/))  Go to their Inventory Reduction page then select Page 2.  Look for their TAC IV series scopes.  (http://sunopticsusa.com/inventory-reduction/?sort=featured&page=2 (http://sunopticsusa.com/inventory-reduction/?sort=featured&page=2))  They have a lifetime warranty and are airgun rated as well.
I know Leapers stands behind their warranty because I've used it.  Sun is fantastic on customer service but I've never had the need to use their warranty.  THEIR scopes don't break!!  I have a Sun on my Diana 48 and a Leapers UTG on my Diana 34.

Thanks for the replies everyone.  The Sun scopes look good, but I want the illuminated reticle. I think I am going to go with the UTG.

See if you can find a ZOS scope on ebay or someplace with the magnification and features that you want.  It will probably come from overseas.  ZOS makes scopes for Barska, BSA and others, and allegedly for the Chinese military.

Check out the Discovery VT-Z 4-16x44 Side Focus. It's got a large focus wheel. Over at Airgunopticsplus.com I think you can get one for under a $100 if you sign up for their mailing lists.
Good luck.
