Title: Prod range day
Post by: screwwork on May 28, 2018, 02:32:24 PM
Saturday:
Prep for Shooting on Sunday, gather gear, fill air tank, blah blah blah.

I have had some trouble with AV compressor, it has blow two of the rupture disks, one at 4500k and other at 4000k. I called AV on Wedsenday to talk about the problem and the tech on the phone said that they have had some quality issues with the rupture disks lately and didn't have any instock.. Now down to my last rupture disk, while filling the tank it blew at 3k PSI. Well after I cussing and getting really pisssed off. I finished loading my Jeep for the range day.

Sunday:
I got up early to try to beat the high winds of the afternoon at the ranch that I shoot at occasionally.  Placing my targets at 50 to 100 yards ranges.
The winds were blowing again from all directions through the canyon, it was challenging to say the least at 50 yards, 100 yards was a &^^& shoot.

The mini-rod & Prod, both needed to be filled for shooting, I started off with mini-rod, sited it in for 50 yards.
It was shooting 25.4gr JSB's in a 4inch circle at 50 yards..What the heck, this gun has never shot like that in two years. checked fps over crony, ave 960 fps. Normally this gun is very accurate out to 75 yards without question.
I have never cleaned the barrel, maybe I fouled up the lead/barrel in shooting over the crony at home?
So setting the mini-rod aside & feeling pretty bummed out at this point. I tethered up the Prod to the air tank, just at 2k psi. After a few rounds and a couple of clicks on the turret to the scope it was shooting pretty good.

My Prod
20" Mrod MM HF barrel
Double tubed for air capacity
18 gr JSB's at 900fps, tethered to 18CF bottle at 2000 PSI
Shooting position, Rested on bag's

site in 50yards

shooting at 100 yards

looking at shooting position 100yards

After I was done shooting at the range, I went and took out some aggression on the local g-squirrel population.
Ended up with about 15 at ranges from 10 to 30 yards shooting the 18gr JSB's @ 900fps.

Sometimes things don't go as planned.  But it looks like you made the best of it.  After all the frustration you managed to get in some great shooting

Aint that the truth, plan for the worst and hope for the best I say! lol
Been doing this shooting/hunting & fishing thing for a while, it is always good to a backup plan if things don't work out as planned.
Tuesday, I'll have a call into AV to get some more rupture disks so I can use the compressor.
I had some honey do's today. I'll sort out what happened later next week.
Hopefully, my next range day will have lite to no winds and see what the Prod can really do.
