Title: BSA Magazine: Which Is Better and Why? Aluminum or Plastic Wheel?
Post by: Taso1000 on May 21, 2018, 07:16:43 PM
Hello All,

The magazine that came with my .177 Scorpion SE 1200 rifle has an aluminum wheel.  The magazine that came with my .177 R-10 MK2 has a plastic wheel.

Is one better than the other and does anyone know why BSA changed wheel materials?

It would seem to me that the aluminum wheel would be more durable.

Thanks!

Taso

I prefer the plastic one in my R10. Very reliable and no problems.

The plastic wheel is the new design and it holds the pellets better.

Aluminium drum magazines had issues with short/soft skirt pellets. This was solved by loading those type pellets from front of the magazine. The o-ring position was changed for plastic drum to fix that. For normal length normal hardness pellets the aluminium drum works just fine. The only pellet I've had issues with (using aluminium drum mag) was .177 JSB Exact RS, the skirts got crushed when the mag rotated and that caused jams.
