Title: I did the first testing on my Plinkster today
Post by: Wayne52 on May 19, 2018, 06:04:25 PM
I tried doing some testing on the first co2 cartridge I put in it but was only able to get about 15 shots (terrible ones at that) with the JSB18.13'S so rather than trying anything else I knew I needed to tear it down.  I cleaned about everything except for the barrel it'self, I'll definitely be cleaning that before I put anymore pellets over the chrony again.  It was leaking by the poppet right from the get go on the first cartridge.  I might just put another cartridge in it and let it sit over night and see what happens.  Actually since I tore it down it's not really doing too bad for a co2 gun getting 13fpe to 13.5fpe.  A few of the shots jumped way up there too, I think the barrel really needs some cleaning attention before I do anything else, it's about the only thing I didn't clean yet.

Wayne, I didn't realize the .22 shoots that hard.  That's pretty impressive.  13fpe for 20 shots...you're getting about 260fpe from a cartridge which isn't too shabby out of the box.  FYI, a bstaley O-ring buffer has worked well on my Plinkster (CR600W) and TargetMaster pistol (CP1-M).  On the Plinkster, it more than doubled the shot count, from 25 shots to over 50 shots for a slight tradeoff in velocity.  On the pistol it went from 56 shots to 84 shots, or about a 50% increase in shot count.

If the accuracy isn't to your satisfaction, check both the crown and the rifling at the muzzle.  Both mine had pitiful looking crowns, and the Plinkster had rifling damage.

Those are some nice mods you did on yours Jason, I can tell by the sound of it sometimes I get hammer bounce even in the middle of the cartridge, it's using way more than it needs I can tell. I haven't even had the LDC off mine yet, I know the LDC that's on my CP2 has probably got it beat for sure.

Keep it coming, I just ordered one last week.

Sad to hear the LDC isn't as good as the CP2.

Hopefully the barrel is ok, I'm hoping SPA didn't take a page out of Crosman's book on the 2240 barrels.

Mine seems to be doing good on paper so far.  I did these groups with a fresh cartridge before I put the gun back in the box for leaving for an overnight pressure holding test.  I figure that's 13 shots so when I do the test hopefully I'll get another 12 good shots from the cartridge (I really think I did get the leaking cured though).

I highly recommend a tear down as gunked up as mine was on the inside.

That's great to hear! I'll have to do a teardown once it comes in. What was loose? I'm not sure what a poppet is sorry. Is that a part of the valve?
