Title: Looking for air rifles along the lines of a Crosman Ravin
Post by: xtred1 on May 14, 2018, 11:58:10 PM
This is what I have going, my Dragonfly is being sent back for repairs. It is going to take some time to get back.  I have rats now, so I was looking at something to fill the gap that I can put my bugbuster on. My bait station is at 7yards I don’t need much power 500 to 600 FPS.  I have a short LOP so short rifles are good with me.  Any other rifles I should look at besides the Ravin?

A Daisy 880.
The grips are small and cramped on the crosman rayven, the Ruger explorer ( same action ) and the umarex embark ( green Ruger explore, so also same action  ).

A multipump will allow you to vary the power if you get overpenitration, and the 880 is a darn accurate gun which only costs $35.
They also clock in around 625 fps on 10 pumps which is right in your mark.

Nothing like the Raven but maybe one to consider... XS12 from Mike at Flying Dragon. A little pricier than the Raven but the shorter LOP you mentioned along with the power level and if you have Mike do a little tuning, you'd have a sweet little rifle that would fit the bill and they get solid reviews from other members.

Stoeger X3-TAC, Ruger Explorer, Gamo Recon, Sar Embark. They look like a Ravin. X12 would be a nice one. Diana 240 Classic  580fps and looks nice.

Rats at 7 yards with a Crosman 1077 or Benjamin Wildfire would be a blast.

Rats at 7 yards with a Crosman 1077 or Benjamin Wildfire would be a blast.

I have a very nice 1322 with a pistol scope on it. (I love this pistol) When there was snow on the ground there was enough light to use that scope. (I am hunting late nights) I killed a few while there was snow on the ground. Now the snow is gone I am using a red lamp. The red lamp does not put out enough light for that scope.  That is why I ordered the dragonfly with the 32mm 3x9 bugbuster for it. One day the warranty Dragonfly will be back and I will be tagging rats with that. I was just thinking it would be more then a few weeks. Rats can go from 2 too a bunch in a few weeks. So I was trying to think stop gap.

For the guys that talked about the XS12 I think that is a beautiful rifle and would love to have one Mike has tuned.  Right now that would take to long to get. But one day I still might have to buy something from him as I like the idea.

Not sure what I will do. But I have read reviews on every rifle everyone has brought up.

Thank you all for your time, I have learned a bunch.

Just as an FYI you can walk into your local wm and pick up a Daisy 880 for $35.
It's great, diirt cheap, can be had today, and that's perfect for a temporary rifle while your waiting for your gun in the mail.

For what it's worth, I had my XS25 in my hands 4 days after I ordered it fully tuned from Mike so if you decide it's something you want, you won't have a long wait.

Does Mike have anymore XS25SFB's? That's a cool looking gun. $75 and a $100 tune would be a nice one. I'd have got one but I got a refurb BHE in SFB stock with a steel muzzle weight that's a good shooter after I adjusted the trigger.

You would have to call him Tim. Call between 9am and noon CT during the week. He normally answers.
