Title: In classic GTA spirit
Post by: Nomadic Pirate on May 07, 2018, 07:33:01 PM
So, couple weeks ago I asked if there was anyone on GTA that would be willing to make me a simple plate with holes to shave the points off the 43gr EunJin pellets.

Couple days later Craig (glassman98) PM me that he was willing to give it a try, I sent him a bunch of pellets that I shaved previously and within a few days Craig sent me back a much more elaborate jig that I was planning on,.....I asked Craig how much I owed him but in classic GTA fashion he said "nothing" not even shipping.

Thanks a bunch Craig.

So he made a block that houses 10 pellet, you put them in nose first

(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/NorthShoreLB/DSCF0828_zpspmkdwva8.jpg) (http://s34.photobucket.com/user/NorthShoreLB/media/DSCF0828_zpspmkdwva8.jpg.html)

then screw the plate behind the skirts to seat the pellets properly.

(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/NorthShoreLB/DSCF0829_zps9pzsdkhw.jpg) (http://s34.photobucket.com/user/NorthShoreLB/media/DSCF0829_zps9pzsdkhw.jpg.html)

at this point the points  ;D of the pellets are sticking out from the opposite side

(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/NorthShoreLB/DSCF0830_zpsvc8yieth.jpg) (http://s34.photobucket.com/user/NorthShoreLB/media/DSCF0830_zpsvc8yieth.jpg.html)

one slash with a box cutter and the extra lead is off

(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/NorthShoreLB/DSCF0831_zps6zt8ph01.jpg) (http://s34.photobucket.com/user/NorthShoreLB/media/DSCF0831_zps6zt8ph01.jpg.html)

in no time I had a tin of 43gr EunJin done

(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/NorthShoreLB/DSCF0832_zpswlgm9oap.jpg) (http://s34.photobucket.com/user/NorthShoreLB/media/DSCF0832_zpswlgm9oap.jpg.html)

The original 43gr Eunjin compared to the modified ones

(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/NorthShoreLB/DSCF0833_zpsqg3sgvna.jpg) (http://s34.photobucket.com/user/NorthShoreLB/media/DSCF0833_zpsqg3sgvna.jpg.html)

Now the modified EunJin pellets fit perfectly the Evanix Magazine

(http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/NorthShoreLB/DSCF0834_zpsh6m7ibyw.jpg) (http://s34.photobucket.com/user/NorthShoreLB/media/DSCF0834_zpsh6m7ibyw.jpg.html)

so I can shoot them out of my Storm that has a 20" Career barrel that shoots them at 80 FPE and I can consistently shoot 3/4" groups at 50 yards,......I have a bunch of tins of them pellets and now I can take them hunting  ;D ;D ;D

 (http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d124/NorthShoreLB/DSCF0835_zpsnykmhomk.jpg) (http://s34.photobucket.com/user/NorthShoreLB/media/DSCF0835_zpsnykmhomk.jpg.html)

Again,

thanks a lot Craig.

The 43gr EunJin as they come are too long for Evanix magazines

Manny

Great job thinking outside the box,
Craig did a great job building your pellet de-tipper.

Question for you,
How do you like that shooting rest?

I have been thinking real hard at one, that holds the butt stock solid,
since I had my Ham 850 fall off my rest and contacted the floor, needless to say, I have a new scope coming.

Tia,
Don

I don't really like it at all, much prefer to set up with bags and make it to my liking,...but this one is much easier to move and set up for a quick shoot :)

Glad you got that all sorted out. That is a sweet contraption put together, nice and simple craftsmanship. Awesome table too!

The 43gr eunJin are .25s

I got a Career barrel on one of my .25s so I could shoot bullets and the 43gr Eunjins but the pellets didn't fit the mag so I was waiting for a jig like this to be able to modify them,  Will Piatt tuned this gun to shoot the 43gr at 900 fps for a flat 10 shots string and at 35 yards I actually get 20 shots on POI

The Career barrel also shoot the Baracuda well, the Benjamin Well, all the JSBs well and the Predators well,....also shoots the 52gr BBT bullet well.

This Storm .25 with the 290cc air tube the 20" Career barrel, the Will Piatt tune and the beautuful thumbhole stock it's a gun to never be sold :) :)

Sure sounds like a keeper to me Manny! 8)

Did you ever get the bullets to shoot without so many flyers?

I remember you posting that thread Manny !  I'd say that Craig did a heck of a job for you on that ETSJ (Eunjin Tip Shaving Jig) 8)

Great idea and good on Craig...
I have the same issue with the EunJin 28.5 .22 cal. pellets not fitting the SynRod and SPA Varmint mags. I have to use the single shot tray to shoot them. What good is a magged repeater gun if it won't cycle your pellet of choice? They do cycle in the Urban.

Ingenuity! I love it. Great design, and I see a patent in the works on Craig’s end! An air rifler’s meplat trimmer, lol.

NP, try taking a lightweight ball peen hammer to the tips, should just be a wack at each pellet to flatten them. I’m curious if this would work the same as the razor blade, and if it does, you’ll still be retaining the true grain weight of each pellet.

I'm thinking that whacking them may deform or damage the skirts.

I'm thinking to try just a pass with sandpaper on a block

I was thinking that or a pumice rock (grinding wheel dressing stone).

Good karma still outnumber the bad ones except for the porky you'll gonna smack with those lead.

Did try the sandpaper block today and didn't really save any time compared to the blade and you have to deal with lead dust, so I went back to the blade and did an other tin.
Title: Re: In classic GTA spirit

I didn't even consider lead dust when I suggested the stone... I retract my suggestion.

I’ve had numerous blades break off by having too much extended and putting too much pressure . Be careful and  wear safety glasses . You could also sharpen drywall putty knife that’s close to the same width and it would be a lot less likely to snap off and fly somewhere unwanted .🙂

Manny, what is the weight of the eunjin's after shaving the points off ?

i'm sure you have also just helped the meplat ability greatly..... 8)

Congrats on the new tooling Manny.
& to Craig, I say thank you for showing the world what the GTA is all about.

Manny, did you consider attaching a sharp curved blade like a guillotine blade mated to the surface the tips stick out on? With a long enough lever, it should shear right through those tips with one motion.

Manny

Have you tried a wood chisel,
bevel side on the block and push thru keeping the blade edge even with the plate?

Might be easier and faster...

Don

That's the way I might go, next time at the hardware store I'll check them out,...but honestly the blade route isn't to bad at all

So, after I was done with the 2nd tin I lubed both sets with Dry Bike chain lube, and went to test them,

I was so happy to finally have my EunJin ready for the mags that I decided to take the SuperStorm .25 and the new pellets out for a hunt, I went to the Papaya farm and at 4PM I put a stalk on a family of 6.

will have to go to the hunting gate to see the rest :)

on some 225-55-rf & Bator 225-55 rf (Lee) will be trying this... with hot knife or hot sharpened on one side putty knife... cuttin cold distorted the base slightly... just used maple for the blocks and cut with an exacto I have...but I was only trying to get an aprox weight... still need to finish the .224 barrel... pics of what I  got in reply 2 in below thread...

https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=117034.0 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=117034.0)

made some Daisy pointed .22 almost work by taking a bit off the nose...almost accurate after free handing them to look like Crosman's rounded .22 points... before would go off in a 6" half crescent  in a random direction after about 15 yards... just used a nail file.

But yep  tinkering the round is an enjoyable hack when/if you pull it off...and cost a lot less when powered by air.. 8)

Yeah, I'll definitely look into one of those, but honestly a box cutter does just fine, this is not a high volume shooter but a pure hunter so not that many pellets are really needed.

.....and Craig, many, many thanks again.

Very nice jig Craig! And way to go Manny for thinking of it!  Now that I have a RS2 .25, and have a few tins of the Eunjins, me want to try too! ;D  Let us know how the modified Eunjins shoot in the gun...and how fast is your RS2 pushing them.

Well, my Storm is tricked out with a 20" Career barrel and a power tune, shoots the EunJin at 900 fps,

my other Storm .25 is a very early model with the 1st GEN barrel so the data wouldn't be usefull to new Storm .25 owners, also now it's set up for low power/high shot count

Gotcha, thanks for the reply Manny.  I'm going to test a few pellets on my RS2 and see what she likes to eat.  From my readings in Mike's thread, looks like the MKIIs are very promissing.  I also want to shoot the polymags and I purchased an extra spring from PA to set that one up as my lower power tune spring as you suggested in another thread.  I still have yet to try anything over the chrony, but hope to do so this weekend. ;)
