Title: Barrel port size
Post by: mark in ny on May 06, 2018, 06:23:52 PM
Whats the optimal barrel port diameter for a 2400kt? Looking to swap out transfer ports for a few more fps in conjunction with a ffh. I am running a hipac but that doesnt matter for port size same idea as c02. Thanks

Mark I never have drilled out ports in my 2240's or my 2400KT.  I run the 2240 as a carbine with an 18" barrel and it's 3 K capable, I didn't modify the 2400KT for 3K though but it's still got plenty of umph to it.

If you go any bigger than 75-80% of caliber, you can have pellet loading problems and/or damage to them....

Thanks for the responses. Also it brings up another question will a 24 inch barrel give a few extra fps to make it worth it from a 18? I've read in co2 form 18 is optimal for a stock valve which may be true but I'm running a magnum air power modified valve with a hipac. I have the carbine running pretty efficient as far as fps curve on a chrony. So if I were to leave that alone and just swap barrels Id like to think it would have me running a little faster.

In nearly all cases, a 24" barrel will show an improvement over an 18".... At the limit (maximum power, with maximum porting) the 24" barrel will in theory produce 1/3 more power (24/18 x the FPE)....
