Title: Gamo Urban arrived. Some minor problems.
Post by: SpeedyBB on April 30, 2018, 09:57:43 PM
So first off I want to say I am very impressed with the accuracy. I sighted it for 25 yards, I can get jagged one hole groups with little issue. And that is even while using crosman premier hollowpoints. Also, it is such a stable gun, off hand I can hit ear plugs at 25 yards if I do my part. It also seems to be cycling smoothly, had one hangup but I think it was the pellet. Shot it about 150 times so far.
Now, as others already know, the poi can be changed left to right because of the barrel band holding the barrel too tight. Those who say it hasn't been a problem, just try moving the barrel left or right and see what happens. I want the band off but don't want to void the warranty. Looks like they found a fix for the drooping caused by the band, I noticed there is an o-ring under the barrel between it and the band. At 50 yards with 9x magnification I only need to raise about half a mil and it's on. I plan on shooting paper at 50 yards soon. So definitely not shooting low.
My biggest issue is a bad gauge, stuck at 3000 psi out of the box. I don't want to send it back to gamo because it seems to be a good gun. Anyone know if they will send another? I am also open to putting an aftermarket gauge on if it isn't too expensive.

I've recently purchased a number of items (fittings, couplers and gauges) from Tuxing on Ebay. There are several different styles, thread sizes, and pressure ratings for around $7.00 each. Or buy several and use the make offer button $5.00 each with free shipping. No problems with quality, accuracy or service so far.
The items will come direct from China. I could have bought from Aliexpress, but I like Ebay having my back.

- Gauge - Give the gauge some time.   I had one that was stuck for a week but after the temperature warmed up and I put a few rounds through it the gauge magically started working.    If not just send the gun back for exchange.  They can cost 30-$50.

- I cut my barrel band off, made big difference.   You don't need it, it just causes issues.

Really don't want to send it back, but will if I have to. I am worried I will just get one with another problem when I know this one cycles well, also a bonus that it loves cheap cphp pellets. A different barrel might yield different results. For now I will shoot it. Maybe I will just keep shooting it until the 30 day warranty expires, if the only issue is a gauge after a few tins of pellets, then I would be alright with that and put an aftermarket gauge on, also cut the band off when the warranty expires.
Or maybe I will exchange. Need to think on it.

Hmm,if i remember right and i bought mine last summer, the warranty is at least 3years.
It doesnt really matter to me, if something goes wrong i'll fix it myself rather than shipping it to Gammo.
Parts are available from England.

Sent it back for a refund. It is a shame, it was a tack driver. I made up my mind when I saw the o-ring on the magazine was already getting chewed up 150-175 shots in. I didn't think it was cycling that rough, but apparently it was. Those mags are 50 bucks and it didn't look like it could be taken apart to replace that o-ring. I am really bothered by the price gouging on those mags. Not sure if I am getting another or not. For now at least it was a refund.

Might want to put it in the bank and let it build interest until it actually does come out if it's like any of the others promised.

If it turns out that the flash has their advertised shot count per fill I will consider it. A couple reviews showed it to be way lower. My eyes are on the Fortitude. Long wait though, and now that I tried a pcp I really want to get shooting again.

I'm loving my Urban got it in December. I can hit wine corks, sidewalk chalk, rubber rats from 25 yards to 60 yards, shots taken as if I was hunting, one and done. I'm getting more and more familiar with the trajectory of the JSB 15.8 pellets and will be taking the Urban out to the local dairy soon to do some pest control.

Speedy, fyi they come apart very easily just by undoing the screw in the center then just remove and replace the o-ring. Also this yt video shows taking one apart and reassembling it. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dI6cQS5rVJ0 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dI6cQS5rVJ0)

Wow. I missed it. I thought I saw pins just on one side, it threw me off. Still, other than the barrel, I was having a bad feeling about the Urban I got. The bolt was definitely off center, any tampering would have voided the warranty. I just want something to work right out of the box. The poi shifts due to the band were also bothering me, and couldn't cut it off until it was out of warranty. And the gauge...
