Title: Suggestions for 50-100 yards plinker
Post by: cluny1973 on April 28, 2018, 11:21:45 AM
Hi, after a couple of years without shooting I'm back. I'm itching to buy a new gun but don't know what to get. I'm looking to get 100-150 fpe and at least 3-4 in CTC at 100 yards. Air consumption is not an issue but I would like 3-5 shots with a spread of no more than  30-40 fps. Caliber in 357 or 45, so I can shoot pellets and cast. As far as velocity, I would like 800 fps or more. I'm not hunting with it, just want to have fun and blow up things out to a 100 yards. I haven't found anything stock that will give me what I'm looking for. I have been thinking about getting a gun and mod it but I don't know much about big bores and don't know which direction to take. I don't want to spend more than 1,000-1200, Suggestions?

I'm betting you mean 100-150 FPE?

Air force Texan in .357 to .45 cal would be the gun for that category, good accuracy out past 100 yards, can use a variety of cast or swagged ammo in many different weights, Round ball, Slugs and Sabots (Sabot can be used without a LDC) , adjustable power wheel, up to 8 good shots per fill (.45), very high FPS, even with heavy ammo, Very Quiet with the LDC installed, Lots of FPE, in your price range.
I have one and it's a Monster, all stock except for a LDC, I shoot from 143 grn Round balls to 372 grn Slugs .457 cal, the round balls give the highest fps (1130 fps), the 372 grn Slugs get (780 fps), the heavier the ammo the more air it uses, I use AV round balls and Nielsen Specialty ammo for all other rounds, good selection of ammo out there, Be aware, it will shoot through a car, or a tree (8" round tree trunk) power is equivalent to a .45 long colt.

I've been looking at the Texan and it is definitely on my list. That being said, I would prefer a shorter gun that's easy to shoulder.
So far I've looked at the Rainstorm II which can be tuned to shoot good. Also, the Sniper seems to be pretty good once it's tuned. The Hammer is just around the corner, that could do it. The Winchesters and Gamos are out as well, but being new guns there is not a lot of info out there.

Don't let Marketing re-branding sidetrack you,...Winchester and Gamo big bores are only Winchester and Gamo by name, those are EVANIX guns.

I don't care about branding, as long as they perform. Yes, the Winchester kind of looks like a Rainstorm and the Games look identical to the Evanix Rex FA.

If it can hit a can of corned beef at 100 yards and destroy it, ill be happy. Some of the things I'll be shooting at: Junk refrigerators, old toilets, clay, ballistic gels, putrid pumpkins, acrylic slabs, car doors and other assorted junk! I know it sounds silly plinking with a big bore but it's a lot of fun if you have the right kind of junk to shoot at. I'm not hunting with it or competing, just want o have fun. Since it's a "fun" gun, I don't want to spend huge amounts of money. I'm just looking to see if there is a big bore that can put big power out to 100 yards with groups 3-4 inches and shooting somewhat flat. The question is, are there stock guns that can do this without breaking the bank or do I need to look for a modded condor/evanix/sam yang. The Hammer and the Texans look promising but don't want to rush and buy one and regret it when the new big bores that are supposed to come out this year come out.
