Title: When YouTube lashed out at airgun channels
Post by: RAJOD on April 24, 2018, 08:59:51 AM
Back in feb 2018 you tube took down many air gun channels.   Most people did not understand why which created many theories.    ie.  Ted thought his channel was up because he was popular and bigger (wrong sorry Ted).

Most took it personally as if they were being individually singled out.     I thought it was a algorithm change or perhaps someone exploiting it .

Does anyone have a link to the official investigation of this?    What really happened, not theories.
It only lasted a few days but  when there is lost revenue at stake people wanting compensation generally follows.

I can't vouch for the validity of this site, but it does specifically reference airguns:

YouTube has admitted it hired 10k new moderators and many sites deemed "right-wing" or "conservative" were impacted.

I have no doubt some of the bigger companies had lawyers involved.   And smaller guys get to start class action suites.

Yes probably many of them young non gun owners that had a knee jerk reaction.    Misguided anger.

I quit looking.
Therefore their advertisements are not seen... by at least 1.
Multiply that as you see fit.

I think its important to understand this began before February and is still ongoing. I still get weekly restrictions put on more and more of my videos. This week I had two of my last remaining unrestricted popular videos become age restricted. Including videos that had warnings/disclaimers and don’t show graphic kill shots. The restrictions have greatly slowed traffic to my channel.

What’s maddning is that there’s no standardization as to what will and will not be restricted. Many videos more graphic than mine carry on without restrictions. The only deciding factor I can see is whether corporate sponsorships are present or not. The more a video is tied to an identifiable business from within the hunting or airgun industry, the less likely it is to be restricted.

I’m all the more convinced that Youtube’s objective is to stop the growth of up and coming channels theydon’t like moreso than they are trying to shut down channels that are already popular. I think they want to stop growth first, then turn around and deal with channels with big followings as a secondary objective.

I for one among many, am sick and tired of this progressive socialist intrusion into the lives of every American. Propaganda and censorship. Sickens me!

Possible dumb question, but do you think any of this has to do with the recent damage’s of the black rifle? I wonder if any AR videos have been banned? Many folks quick to blame the gun, instead of the insane minds of these murdering fools.

I think you have hit the nail on the head with what's really happening.  Too bad YT can't be more centered.

I recently watched a bunch of motorcycle videos on YT.  These guy were causing havoc on the streets with the police trying to stop them with their lights on.  The cyclist were ignoring the police and giving them the finger while also doing wheelies and breaking numerous traffic laws and putting themselves and others sharing the roads at risk.  There are tons of those types of videos for the young people to mimic.  You would think YT would shut those down but no, those videos are ok.  I don't understand the non-conservative mindset at all.

You Tube acts like this was an accident but I question that.

Take a look at this.

It reminds me of something that was in the news a year or two ago, that a teacher suspended a little boy because he ate his sandwich at the lunch table at school into the shape of a pistol.  I would have said to her, "Excuse me!  Your freedom was not won with flowers, chocolates, and greeting cards!  It was won with guns; and who do you expect to protect it if you indoctrinate every boy to not have anything to do with guns?!"  My fifth great-grandfather fought in the Revolutionary war under General George Washington.  I hope to not have to do that myself, and I'm way beyond the age that the military would want me (although I'm far more fit than most young people are today); but I hope that if duty calls, I'll have the courage to do what is right.  YouTube will be screaming that it's not PC.

It's happening again, airgun web tv just had another issue!  All the shooting sites need to move off there and to some of the new platforms!

That real video looks good.   You Tube (Google) is getting too big for its britches.

They have that new You Tube Red (paid subscription)  they are making new shows like the new Karate Kid.  They beat out net flix for the rights.

But given what they have done I can't support You Tube.     I hope all the air gun channels find a new home away from tube.
