Title: CR160 gets scoped
Post by: kelvinator on April 20, 2018, 04:53:06 PM
I tried several newer scopes on this thing and non of them seemed to look right to me.
They worked okay but they just looked out of place.
I always liked the look of Terry M.'s 180's and 400's with vintage scopes on them so I figured I'd try it.
Ran across a deal on a nice old Weaver V4.5 that had just been refurbished by Iron Sight Inc in Tulsa OK.
I had already scored some of the Robinson style Kwik-Site rings so put them to use.
It shoots great as ever and I think I may just leave it on this time.
Although, I think this set up might look even better on a 180, but I don't have one of those...........yet.

That is very cool. It looks great. I have a Weaver B-4 on my C140, but your scope probably gathers a lot more light.

That CR160 looks sweet!, those old scopes just perfectly complement the vintage look of the period, when the scope is too large and/or with too many bells and whistles the air gun looks awkward to me. The picatinny mount I was able to use on my CR140 looked over-engineered to me from day one, and out of place on my  vintage airgun, the same goes with the Bugbuster scope, so I'll be swapping both for a vintage Weaver x4 marksman I was recently given by a friend paired with a Mac1/IA mount soon.

I have a CR180 and was trying to score one of those Ron Robinson's mounts for it, but the site sold out, those Robinson's also look perfect for vintage guns like your CR160, they look like they belong together...   ;D

PS: I scored a perfect JC Higgins x4 scope on Ebay recently, I think is the equivalent of a weaver K4 with 1" tube, put that one on the Sheridan with Mac1 mounts, they fit together like if they were made for each other... ;D

The 160 and 180 are very capable rifles that benefit from a scope.  The 180 is a simpler, lighter construction.  Best is to have the barrel/receiver grooved.   My early 160 with Weaver K2.5.     (https://i.imgur.com/9eryero.jpg)

Kelvin, nice looking set-up. Clean lines and proportion, those two together.

The V4.5 from Iron Sight is a nice touch also. Bet it works nice.
