Title: Pressure Regulator Valve for Crosman 2240 found on eBay
Post by: toyboat on April 20, 2018, 01:44:32 PM
Has anybody seen and/or used this pressure regulator for the Crosman 2240?

I found it on fleabay for $155 plus $30 shipping.  It's coming from Thailand.

This one, correct?

First time I've seen it.  Looks interesting.

Without a Plume chamber it isn't worth a &^^&, And it doesn't have one. Chinese garbage

It looks like the plenum is rather small . Could work for a low power build . I’m not sure how it gets mounted . I don’t see any threads or retaining screws . With a bit of hacking could probably be made to work on just about any crosman gun with the same OD tube as the 2240 or even a qb series .

Looks like the valve is mounted directly to the tank block.... Assuming that is the case, there is no end load from the internal pressure on the valve screw, and it appears to mount using just the single stock screw....

There simply can't be much plenum volume, but no reason it won't work for .177s or low power .22s....

That's what I was thinking.  Don't know what laws there are in Thailand, but the way it's set up I doubt there'd be a problem achieving 12 FPE ballpark in .177 caliber.

I have one on the way ... already have his breech and its remarkably well done. I'll comment on the valve after I get it and run it through its paces. First off ...pecor...to just say cheap Chinese junk...smh. Buy something ... then give your opinion.
I see no reason why this won't send a 18g .22 at 850-900fps.  Some may not consider that a "power" build but what's not to like about that out of a 22xx build.
I know this is a big assumption but let's say the valve is built well, safe and solid. It seems to me an ingenious design to be built in a way that one doesn't need to pin the valve beyond its single screw. It's also held on by the front trigger group screw just beyond the valve.

Do you think this has less plenum than shooting 12gr carts?  Seems to me if nothing else it should provide a high shot count at or above factory power levels, but we will have to wait and see.  Only thing i do not see that I would like to is a burst disc location. I like the concept and look forward to your review of this.

I have absolutely zero technical knowledge about plenum volume... and all that stuff. That's way above my level. I'm just having a ball buying components and putting it all together.  But my latest 22xx build is a 3,000psi 15" tube huma regged at 1,300psi. There isn't much plenum there and it shoots a 10g .177 at 750fps for 20 shots+.

Edit... but got to admit.... now I'm a little concerned😬

10 gr. @ 750 is 12.5 FPE.... Ideal plenum volume is about 12-13 cc, but half that will work, it just takes about 100 psi more pressure....

18 gr. @ 900 is a totally different animal, that is 32 FPE.... Ideal plenum is 32 cc, anything less than about 16 cc will show a marked drop in performance.... At 8 cc, you would need a big increase in pressure to get your 32 FPE, and efficiency will suffer as well....

The volume inside a 22XX valve is less than 3 cc.... so add whatever there is in the tank block to that.... IMO the answer is not much volume there....
