Interesting...

OK I'm not visiting unless I really need to then.
-
I wouldn't swear it, but I can't imagine I went to see anything on this map a hundred times :o! Even during the few years I've been a GTA member. But who knows... Anyway, I'd like not to be on that map anymore.
-
ZeeMaps terms
Starting April 1, 2018, maps not owned by an active paid subscription will be limited to 100 map views
-
It doesn't take just your visits as the count. It takes ALL visits and adds them up.
So If 100 members visit once? We have hit the 100 count limit.
-
Am I that famous ? :o ;D ;) It's a poor compensation for an unpleasant surprise. I'll just forget it. 8)

WOW !
Now that's not good. This is the first I have heard about this.
I just checked, and the GTA Members Map is now "Frozen" too ! This is just terrible ! The members of the GTA have come to use the Members Map to find each other, find local airgunners in their area to meet and share and grow the sport of airgunning.
It has been a valuable tool for the membership here in promoting lasting friendships and camaraderie for years.
Seems like a similar situation to the recent fiasco's of PhotoBucket and YouTube.
I can't help but feel like it is akin to a "ransom" or (well,... maybe even a harsher term, that would not be well received here.)
MAN !
This is REALLY Aggravating to me !
GRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ! ! !
-
Here's what I just found on the ZeeMaps site on what it would now cost to keep the access to our GTA Members Map.
:'( :-\ :(
MAN ! ! ! I can not even BEGIN to describe how this grinds my craw.

Increase

Increase by 2,500 $19.95 $199.95

Although a valuable resource I say let Zee DIE if it will not be reasonable. Surely they have collected many dollars of marketable demographic information from the service being free in the past. These are extortion tactics but it shows little that is free will stay so.
-
Well pfffft..... :P
I use it a lot when I travel to shout out to new GTA buddies. I could do 100 hits by myself with a little time.

I say...Don't give in or negotiate with folks who use these types of unscrupulous business tactics.

+1!

Sooooo, what your saying Mark, is that it's ALL your fault and you'd be happy to pay the annual fee so as not to lose this valuable tool? ;)

Try this link

;D
Not sure how long this will work but it does for now.
Whoever has control of the account might want to export the info in CVS format.

I am certainly going to contribute to the cause. What is their price plan anyway?

-
It works for now, just got my marker added to the map.
-
Typical...
When I owned the PC repair shop I would tell my customers that nothing on the internet is free... You will either pay them or pay me to clean the garbage out of your PC.

It's hard to remember just WHERE I posted his info, there are at least 3 different posts in 3 different gates about this. LOL
But, I have been in contact with these folks. Seems the paid version is minimum $19.95 a month or $199.95 for a year. I pleaded with them that we are a not for profit organization and the gal is trying to get us grandfathered in at no cost. She asked me to be patient. That didn't give me a clue as to how long to be patient.
LOL
(Changed pleased to pleaded)
-
If we can't get grandfathered in, and with 2000+ members on the map,
I would think that enough folks could pull together and contribute to keeping the map.
$200 should not be very hard to raise to keep it for a year.
So for those here who have ever benefited by meeting others to enjoy our sport please help out and hit the donations tab and send what you can. C'Mon guys we are only talking $5 from 40 people to make that happen. anything more just goes to help keep the GTA going.
I'll send in a donation now.
-
I'm in.
-
Our map is back!!!
-
Awesome!
Now I can see who is around Jacksonville FL :D
-
Dave,
How did you get that ? If there's anything I can contribute (I mean sending a few kopecs), just let me know. I know it's a bit contradictory with what I've just written but I can always change my mind when things go ahead...
Thanks and congrats.
BTW, I guess there must be quite a lot of ex members' locations still appearing on that map. Isn't there a way to remove them ?

After explaining who we are and that we at not for profit, they grandfathered us into the system as not having to pay.....for now anyway.
:)

Great job. Thanks from us all (I'm sure).

Nicely done Dave.

subscirptions are the way of the future. But Corporate America would do well to work on HOW they annoucne that, and should offer some kinda discount for the first enrollment period.
you only gotta remember how PhotoBucket announced their "improved" product offerings to see what not to do. Its also tuff to swallow when much of what Ive purchased and subscribed to on/with my iPad is US$10.oo or less.......

One way would be to export the data in CSV format. Then export the members list in CSV format from the GTA members list.
Do a filter on the GTA members list as to a last active date (IF that can be exported)
Take that data and then filter the Zeemap CSV.
Then wipe the GTA Map and reload the filtered CSV.
;)
So how far back should one wipe Members is the first question givin all the info that can be worked with should all the above be obtained.
And for future possible issues? We should keep an exported CSV of the Members Map on say a Bi-monthly basis.
I firmly believe there will come a time when this issue happens again.
The ONLY way to protect this kind of asset is to be prepared for that kind of event.
So I guess that makes me a Prepper?
;)
