Had a job to do where I needed a steady rest to face off the ends of a 6" diameter pipe 53" long. I didn't have a bigger diameter pipe around to make it out of and didn't feel like fabricating the frame for it. I used a bent ATV rim from the scrap pile. I turned brass pads for 3 fingers where they contact the pipe. There is a center bolt that holds it down to the ways. So far it works great.

perfect for the task at hand.. ive seen all kinds of homebrew steady rests on youtube , and they usually do just fine.

Always fun to re-purpose something from the scrap pile! Your only limited by your imagination! Thanks for all the comments.
