There ya go Phil... give it a shot. Sorry I couldn't locate the thread sooner.

Thanks guys...actually had seen that one for some reason thought it was more involved...secret sauce didn’t work overnight by itself..will try flush but for backup ordered new brass valve and pump cup... ;)

Denatured or rubbing alchohol?

Denatured or rubbing alchohol?
I used plain old RX over the counter rubbing alcohol.
I use the same thing when cleaning up the barrels after pulling q-tips and patches of goo gone, soft scrub and wd-40.

Denatured or rubbing alchohol?
Bourbon.

LOL... funny, I have been known to use a little "Southern Alabama Creek Water" in a pinch.
-
I've heard good things about creek water. Especially Popcorn Sutton's.

True story.....
I have alergies and keep nasal spray on hand. I order Secret Sauce in the large shampoo bottles and use empty nasal spray bottles (minus the inner tube) for oiling my pumpers with SS and also for alcohol flushing when needed.....
No, I didn't spray either in my nose... I did, however, flush a pumper with nasal spray..... results were less than effective.
I suggest labeling bottles clearly.

My flush was easy mainly due to Ol' Blue needing to be be cocked to pressurize the valve. Without cocking, the pump just pushes alcohol through the valve and out the transfer port/ barrel. Depending on the model you want to flush, it may be more difficult? Man did it work, tho. Best of luck!

I just did this to a CO2 pistol that was giving me grief, and it is holding gas and working just fine now :)

Rubbing alcohol and Secret Sauce: airgunning’s “Tune-up in a Bottle!!!”🤯
-
All this is fascinating but, as english isn't my mother tongue, I just wonder what's rubbing alcohol and denatured alcohol.
OK, the heck if I spoil any Bourbon in my pumper but that doesn't help me. Except of this last category, I have 3 types of alcohol at home : medical one (90%), methylated spirit, and fruit alcohol my wife uses once a year to make what she calls "vin d'orange" (orange wine) I just dare not put my lips in.
I won't disassemble my beloved Crosman 2100 as it shoots better than I can and I'm a poor tinkerer but I'm sure it's quite fouled inside so this alcohol flushing story had my attention. I can't imagine US athletes still rubbing themselves with alcohol to remove any cramps or aches, so could let me know what kind of alcohol you're actually using ? ??? :o 8)
-
Yves... use the medical one..(90%)
-
Right I thought this was a medical post, and that the Alcohol flush was a new diet plan I could possibly stick to.
-
Avator is correct.
Rubbing alcohol is isopropyl alcohol, which is probably what you call medicinal alcohol because it's used to disinfect an area before you puncture it with a needle or scalpel (in medical practice).
I do like the idea of an alcohol flush with bourbon, though, but not for my guns ;)
-
Thanks a lot Avator and RBQChicken!
I'll try it cautiously. If my Crosman 2100 shoots everywhere, this will be the first time I can see a drunk airgun ;D
-
I have had luck using a Syringe with 90% Isopropyl to put it down the Air Hole.
The cheaper 70% stuff is 30% water and it did not completely evaporate. The water beads were plain as day after and I did not want to risk doing long term harm.
Learned about it here https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=105393.msg999319#msg999319 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=105393.msg999319#msg999319)

Thanks fellows! The "alcohol flush" worked great on a 1976 Benjamin 347 that had quit building pressure. A flush with 91% Isopropyl Alcohol followed by an overnight soak and it was building enough pressure to blow gunk out. Application of "Secret Sauce" and another overnight soak, and it's back to full power. I'd bought the reseal kit a couple of months ago but have been too lazy to do the work. Will use that kit on another Benjamin sooner or later I suppose. I've had that 347 since 1976 and it was resealed about 5 years ago for the first and only time. You fellows have come up with something that can really work !

Another satisfied customer. ;)

Tried it very cautiously on my Crosman 2100 with a 96% isopropyl alcohol (got it in Spain, can't be found in France) and the result was :
- No goo neither dirt on the paper I shot a few minutes after I had dropped some alcohol in the air intake. Didn't forget to cock the rifle before. Dry shot three or four times.
- Put 2-3 drops of Pellgun oil in the same hole (I hadn't bought the air tool oil yet).
- Then I checked the riffle accuracy at the usual 30m range : no change, just perfect.
I surely won't complain. Usually when I'm tinkering one of my airgun, there's always something going wrong. Not this time! 8)

No need to struggle with injecting alcohol or oil into the air hole. Just place about a ˝ teaspoon (I’ve gone heavier at times) above the plunger. Cycle the gun a few times & let it sit upright for a few hours or overnight. Gravity will send the alcohol into the piston where it does the most good. Same with the oil (secrete sauce or whatever none detergent you prefer), after you’ve blown out all of the alcohol. A few drops above the plunger. Cycle the gun & let it sit upright. The oil will find its way into the piston & other parts with regular use.
Once there is no longer any alcohol or oil dispersed onto the white rag I use Goo Gone to clean the inside of the barrel. I continue to swipe it with clean patches until it is completely dry.
No mysterey on the alcohol. Just regular rubbing off the counter alcohol.
-
One last tip...since your flushing with alcohol, use it to clean pins & pivot points (being careful not to drench wood). Those areas are usually just as bad...lube when done.

No...oil does not work by its self. How is it going to break down gunk? You might change your mind on the involved part after cycling the gun umteen times to clear it out.
