Title: Trouble Sourcing Part For A Daisy
Post by: DevilsLuck on April 01, 2018, 10:41:23 PM
I finally got around to scoping my Daisy 853, and had a great time with it. This rifle really responds well to being scoped. With one glaring exception... It is a royal pain in the neck to load. Especially with my large fingers.
So what I want to do is replace the receiver cover with one from a Daisy 853C. This model accepts a 5 shot indexable magazine which would make loading a breeze. No more trying to drop the pellet in, and hoping it doesn’t flip over, and up pointing the wrong way...
So... does anyone know where I can find a Daisy 853C receiver cover?

Last I tried, Daisy still has them. There's more needed to use the clips in an 853 than just the receiver, though.

DAISY 853C PART NUMBERS THAT DIFFER FROM THE 853
1.   137922-000 Receiver ($6.00)
2.   168532-000 Pump lever assembly ($11.00)
3.   169311-000 Valve body and barrel (costs $60.00)
4.   154062-100 Sear ($1.00)
5.   135547-000 Hammer ($2.50)
6.   169746-K00 Bolt assembly ($2.50)
7.   154148-100 Actuator bar rotator ($1.00)
8.   154059-100 Bar actuator ($2.00)
9.   163119-000 clips (5 for $4.95)
10.   154061-000 Single shot adapter ($1.00)

Hmmm. I didn’t realize so many parts would need to be changed. No big deal except for the pumper body. Using it would lower the power level...

The valve body/barrel is expensive but shouldn't hurt power. Don't know if the 853C has a dished piston. If it does I'd first try reusing the 853 pump lever assembly.

I thought power might suffer because, I was under the impression that the Canadian version was down powered.

IMHO the easiest way for the energy/MV to be lowered would be to dish the piston. If that's the case, easy fix. I'd want to verify that, though. Might take a look around the Canadian forums, one is: https://www.airgunforum.ca/forums/viewforum.php?f=25&start= (https://www.airgunforum.ca/forums/viewforum.php?f=25&start=)

I’m not actually trying to lower the power. It’s just that when I read the specs for the 853C (C stands for Canada) I noticed the velocities were lower. I actually want the full power of the rifle. I’m just looking to make loading it while scoped less of a hassle.

I understand- I was referring to the easiest way for Daisy to lower the power is dishing the piston- which is an easy fix, as in easy to undo it.

In any event, you might also look into using 953 parts. The barrel isn't a LW but the cost is lower- $30.00. I know for a fact the 953 piston is dished. It's a common mod to fill the dish w/epoxy/JB Weld.

If it was me I'd order up pdfs for the 853, 853C and 953.

I to had problems with loading pellets in my Daisy 880 after i put scope on it.
Have a SE 509TW cross lock tweezers with 45 degree angle. Squeeze the middle
and it opens up. Grab pellet between head and skirt. Then drop pellet in loading gate.
Maybe about 2 seconds. They sell for about $5.00. No more fumbling with pellets.

Andrew;
Thank you for that tip on the tweezers. I have trouble loading pellets in my Crosman 2100 and 2200 rifles. These will work great. I ordered 2 of them here:

Yep... solves problems with several guns and having five thumbs on each hand. I'll make straps or pouches for them.

I hear some guys suggesting pellet pens. I'm not a fan of pellet pens. They don't work well for me in these side and top loaders either.

yeah... I don’t think a pellet pen will help me in this situation.
