Title: SPA CP 1&2 and the plinkster
Post by: huklbery on March 31, 2018, 08:49:16 PM
Enjoying the straight design and simplicity of these affordable guys.  Since shooting can frequently exceed 100F in the shade valve locking can take place on the CO2 stuff.  I like the HPA options for those times of the year.  While I liked the plinkster I have quite a few that already cover that zone of modest power.  That said the CP2 carbine stock suits me to a T.  Using the spare stock I'm converting it to a bottle gun and have it mocked up now.

With 800psi I'm seeing 596 with 14.3g & 1100psi it avg 733 for  17Ftlbs.  No porting aside from removing the piercing/filter from the valve.

Anyone have any porting and or spring experience to share on these rigs?

Yep... they are the new "lego" guns.
Julie at SPA will send you all the parts you need for tinkering except barrels and stock.
Have fun.

With the ease of getting parts for SPA guns direct there's many possibilities with the CP2, I've thought seriously about getting me some PR900W parts to add to mine 8)

I think ive done everything under the sun with the mrodair co2 guns.. heres one example

I also made a 25 cal plinkster, a 9mm plinkster, a 9mm plinkster on hpa,and a bulk fill plinkster.. In my opinion , they are nicer to work on than the 2240 series.. The valves follow all the same rules.. lighter valve spring , slightly shorter stem , opening the throat in moderation , the transfer port and so on.

I like the Dummy CO2 cartridge approach Giovanni, I did one as well for running on hpa tethered.   I saw about a 30fps gain with 1100psi so the restrictions preventing the volume on the valve side from being met I suspect is the "bottle neck" so to speak.

The "Plinkster" (the mrod name for the CO2 version of rifle in the series) has been converted into a bottle gun with the C2 stock.  With a 1100psi regulated bottle and the filter/bulb pierce removed it's running 730fps/17ftlbs with 14.3g pellets.

I had not intended to purchase the HPA "Varmint/Diana Stormrider" version... it would overlap/replicate several airguns on the rack.  That said if for nothing else to see/measure their changes to reach the 26ftlbs & 900fps its a strong draw to order one...

While I will always go for repeatability on shot placement, with the HPA bottle I don't have to be as air frugal and don't mind running a bit hotter even if efficiency isn't optimum.
