Title: Ok Secret Sause is worth it.
Post by: 45flint on March 30, 2018, 09:32:54 AM
Don’t know how secret it is but just got the big bottle lifetime supply with my Crosman scope mount.  Seems to be very good stuff, maybe it’s my imagination but rifle seems smoother and it’s not red and in micro tubes which is a plus. Lol

Someone here recommended using a 'refillable precision needle' -[available at fleeBay] to better reach the small places, and then remember I had one of those from back in the 70's used to oil aquariums motor's shaft  :D, Much easier to use on AG with less mess and no over-spills.

Yeah, slickery stuff. Repeat buyer, myself.

I use it for metal to metal lube. Be careful on trigger mechanisms, it can make a trigger unsafe (hair).

Good idea. I have a squeeze bottle with a tapered tip, but I like the needle applicator better.

I got a couple 2 oz bottles, each came with reseal kits I bought from him.
I have absolutely no complaints about the stuff, but I don't like the bottles they came in.

Not sure if I care enough to get something else to put them in or a different nozzle ...ect but I know it's not the best bottle it could be.

I ordered a small bottle of  "Secret Sauce" with a Mac 1  Scout Scope Mount that I received Friday.         I have never used this lubricant before. I think that I will look around for a needle type applicator to use with it.  Good Idea !          Best Wishes - Tom

Maybe Harbor Freight has a needle applicator?

If not you can get them here from Ebay, other sellers sell them too, apparently these are used by sewing machine technicians.

I bought something very similar to Mackado's suggestion from Amazon. Works great, you just have to be careful when filling the reservoir, as the "Sauce" is a little thick and ends up spilling over if you fill too fast. That stuff is too precious to waste!

Not if you know the "secret." I have a quart bottle.

About 25 years ago Tim told me what the stuff is, but I aint tellin', lol.  8)

I found out about a year ago. Amazing how elementary the ingredients are.

Secret Sauce is 30W AW (Anti wear) hydraulic oil according to the web site.

At $10 for 6 oz it's a better deal than most offerings.

Lube and clean your gun regularly and it doesn't matter much what oil you use.
Cheap 30W oil will work fine.

I use this on all the pump pivot points.
Available in straight 30-60W at the local parts store for $8 a quart.
I like the 50W as it stays where you put it much better than 30W.

I have used 30W ND oil in all my vintage guns, not doubt it works well.  And yes it’s it’s cheap and you’ll probably never use a quart up.  Will still use it on my vintage leather seal guns.  But I think the Mac-1 sauce is better for my pumper.  I used it on the Crosman 108 and it seemed smoother tighter?  And the large size bottle distributes drops of oil with little issue, and I’ll probably never use all that either.

I can appreciate the above warning but I found that once the Sause found its way down into the sear it actually helped to smooth out a less than optimal trigger pull.  So this stuff can save you some honing?

I'm another believer in the special sauce.

Having known Tim for more than thirty years, I trust his judgement when it comes to what lube to use.  (Btw - Bel Ray fork oil is definitely involved.  I've rebuilt more than a few sets of forks and the smell of that stuff is distinctive.)

Be safe,

Jeff

Gotta hand it to ol' Tim, just placing “Secrete” to the Sauce sure was a great marketing tool. All that was needed after that was a few users saying it was the best thing since swish cheese… Ka-ching!

I've heard Pellgunoil called everything from ATF to hydraulic oil dyed red to lord-knows-what. Turn out it's Monolec® GFS single grade 30w Engine Oil. A 1/4 oz. of it costs about 5 cents if bought directly. As far as detergent versus non-detergent goes, LE Monolec is a detergent motor oil.

Tune in a Tube is Almagard® Vari-Purpose #2 grease. It is a lithium complex formulation, red in color. It’s distributed by LEI (Lubrication Engineers, Inc.). This is the same company who supplies Crosman Pellgunoil.

Dear All :
I bought a Fishing Worm Blower today at Walmart for about $2.  I reversed the needle in it and filled it with some Secret Sauce. Now I have a Needle Applicator for the Secret Sauce.  No Shipping paid and cheaper than Amazon. It works Great too. It will apply a small precision amount of lubrication to a precise point on my 1979 Silver Streak with out over lubricating.   It was an easy and inexpensive way to obtain a good precision needle applicator.    My Best Wishes to All  -  Tom

I have a bunch of the needle refillers, 15 ml to 50 ml. Got them from HERE (https://www.fasttech.com/search?needle%20bottle). Free shipping takes 3-4 weeks but 7-10 day shipping can be had for about an additional $1.50.

I would assume it is solvent free, I t may have detergents ? Just don't get secret sauce confused with special sauce from the big mac  :-\

A simple test to detect detergents...two drops of secrete sauce in water. This effect would not occur with detergent based products.

Not sure if you were just poking fun but in case you weren’t…without getting into the chemistry of water, oil, & detergent it’s very simple. I believe this was taught in elementary school.

Water has the greatest density of the three. This is why an insect has difficulty penetrating it (walks on water). Oil works in much the same way. Its properties are less dense than water & this is why it floats. Detergents form a kind of bridge between oil & water. In other words detergents (soap) have properties of both. This is why when detergents are added to oil/grease, oil/grease seem to disappear, when in actuality both water & oil are still separated but at a molecular level.

So, to answer your question; the same would happen if detergent oil was added to water.

I also want to know what it would look like with a detergent motor oil.
Does detergent oil look different than non=detergent oil when dropped on water?
Is this a simple test to determine if the oil is detergent or non-detergent?

Yeah, I wasn't trying to be humorous, I assumed by your first post that oil with detergents added would look different than the pic of your secret sauce on water.  I'll have to try it to see.

I don’t have detergent motor oil so someone else will have to give it a try. I think it is safe to assume though, the difference would be minimal. Why, because the ratios would be severely skewed. However, I think you will still be able to observe a reaction of some water & oil bridging with the detergent.
