Title: Regal XL .177 chrony strings
Post by: holmegaard on March 29, 2018, 05:37:00 AM
Before buying my Regal XL, did some searching for shot strings achieved with the .177 version.  Found some for the .22 version, but never did find any in .177.  Could be more a reflection of my weak google-fu than a lack of data.  In any case, figured I'd contribute a few strings to the web now that the rifle is in hand.  Both were taken after finding what I considered the best starting pressure, just under 200 BAR.  Disc on my rifle suggests 210 BAR as the starting point, but at that fill the string was a bit too erratic on the front end for my taste.  Pellets were H&N Baracuda Match, 10.65 grain.

Some accuracy testing today.  Did ok with JSB 8.4, but a definite preference for H&N Baracuda Match 10.65.  Want to try a few more including JSB heavies, but it'll be hard to beat what the Baracuda Match did.  No chrony today, but will get some strings with the 8.4's up sometime soon.

Greg, very nice shooting! I have one in .22 and it is so accurate and fun to shoot :). My longest shot was on a squirrel from 80yds.

Thanks gentlemen!  Had high expectations for this rifle, which is only fair given it's hefty price tag.  To this point, she's exceeding them.  Could see a .22 or .25 version in my future for longer range pursuits, but it'll take a while to replenish the fun account.

Excellent choice in rifles and nice groups!  One of the finest PCP's on the market.  The 162 cc reservoir is very easy to fill and the harper valve seems perfect.  The stock looks like it has some nice zebra.

Edited for clarity.

Have seen photos of few with more figure in the grain, but I wouldn't kick her out of bed  ;D.
Agree 100% about filling, very easy with a Hill Mk4.

I'm jealous, that's some nice zebra  ;D  How do you like the Mamba Lite?  I have the Viper Connect.  I liked it so much I bought another  ;D

Very impressed with the Mamba Lite so far.  Really didn't know what to expect since there aren't any reviews out there, but the specs were good and reviews for other MTC scopes were very positive.  Clarity is very good, adjustments are precise & repeatable.  Not really a turret turner, but did a box test & it returned spot on.  Didn't want to kill the rifle's great handling, so the fairly light weight is a big plus.

Really like your setup, looks like a great job on the sling stud installation.

They have a lot of nice things for your Regal XL.  Trigger guard upgrade is highly recommended. The single shot tray is absurdly cool.

The sling studs should be standard imo.  I had a slow leak in my rifle and sent it back to AOA for repairs.  AOA fixed it under warranty and installed the studs for me.  They did an excellent job.  Will put her to work next fall for sure.

Greg, as Michael mentioned above, I picked up the Rowan Engineering single shot loader and it works flawlessly, makes it much easier to load than the stock one since you target shoot. All Rowan’s products are very well made and thought out.
