I just installed my new JSAR light weight air tube (more on that below) on my Synrod 'Hogun' rifle and I wondered at what point is it NOT a Benjamin Marauder? At what percent of replaced parts is it something else?
I also have a regulated Marauder bottle rifle with AR style stock/n grip and the usual internal mods and a stock Marauder and now, with this newest addition to removed parts, a whole shelf of original parts, almost enough to build a complete rifle, all I need is a full set of screws,grin.
I have had good luck with Hill products from before the newer valves I want to try came along so this rifle has:
* Hill valve (exhaust port .204) n gauge port
* Travis’s TSS - now converted to the Jefferson State Air Rifle (JSAR), SSG
* JSAR aluminum air tube (that’s Travis too!)
* JSAR lightweight SuperHammer
* An Armada breech (from Tim Hill) because I wanted the Picatinny rail instead of the 11mm dovetail
* Modified bolt with necked down probe n modified handle
* Custom Delrin k-baffles and shroud end cap
* TJ .251 ACP barrel with .187 port { Note: that I REALLY like the Hill Higher Flowing Transfer Port ( HFTP w/ around .2 passage ) and have it in all my Marauder air rifles and Mrod derivatives it fits! Yes, it IS possible to reuse it but even when eventually not re-usable, it seals and FLOWS so well, making it worth it unless you take your rifle apart often. I have gently taken my rifle apart six times with the same port so far so even though I have spares I am pleased to not use them}
* Hill stabilizing barrel band with Picatinny rail on bottom ( I have a VERY strong green laser mounted there that makes snap long shots at hogs much easier)
* UPDATE - Along with the SSG, have added a .30 Huma regulator for the bigger plenum size (Trenier Outdoor supplied it when others did not stock that one) set to 2100 PSI w/ the high pressure side filled to 3200. Now to start the tune
So all that’s stock on the rifle is:
The Stock,
the reworked trigger pack
the shroud tube
the air tube fill/end cap
the various screws, except for the upgraded ones
Is this still a Benjamin, Haha?
On the Jefferson State aluminum tube:
PRO’s - On the Jefferson lightweight air tube, the loss of just a pound TRANSFORMS the rifle into a lightweight marvel and I love it! Repeat that this makes the rifle feel AMAZINGLY light compared to a stock one and it will significantly reduce my fatigue factor carrying it hunting. It’s crazy how much difference I feel with the rifle strap on my shoulder and mounting it to shoot is much better. I could even see where some might need to put a little muzzle weight on (FYI - I have a modified shroud end cap that has a brass weight section attached to it that replaces the last/forward baffle when the occasion calls for it but it's not mounted now)
CON’s - However, I have only had it a half week and have noticed that the black anodizing is ‘soft’ and has gotten damaged in a couple of places just handling it at the range and one days hog hunt. But that is OK for me because I am going to take the rifle down and KG Gun-Kote everything in tan n green anyway for a bullet proof finish. Perhaps someday they might try a batch in other colors than black, I bet there is some market for say tan or green anodized.
Overall, I recommend this mod if you can afford it.
