I got the wolverine out and shot a few groups and looked at the velocity to make sure everything was as it should be before the ground squirrels start coming up. I have seen a couple early ground squirrels popping up but most are still underground. I shot a couple house sparrows and then I got the chrono out and a target. I noticed that the wolverine seemed to be getting fewer shots than it did last summer after I tuned it to shoot JSB King Heavies @ 834 fps and thats what prompted me to look into it. When I pulled the stock off I noticed the hammer travel was not where I had adjusted it to be. The set screw for holding the hammer travel adjustment had worked loose and the hammer started walking out making the wolverine waste air. Easy fix and it was a good excuse to look back into if I wanted to tune for the King Heavies or the 25.39 Kings.
When I bought the Wolverine last year it came with the Kings shooting right at 900 fps. It was shooting good but I felt like it could do better cause there would be a random flyer once every 5 or 6 shots. I figured it was the speed the Kings were flying at. So I turned the power up to try and get the King Heavies to shoot 820 fps or faster instead of dropping the power to shoot the Kings slower. I got the heavies to max out at 834 fps avg and the Wolverine was shooting nice little groups at 50 yds without the random flyers. I was happy and thats where I left it tuned until yesterday. When I found the loose set screw and the tune to be out of whack I decided to go back over the tune and shoot the King and King Heavies side by side at their preferred speed to see which one would be most accurate.
The King Heavies gave me a 5 shot group at 47 yds that measured right around .500 MOA @ 834 fps. I adjusted the power down until the Kings were shooting 900 fps and started a 5 shot group. I stopped at shot 2 because the group was already 1" @47 yds not good. I turned the power down a little more and got 890 fps but three shots were about .7 - .8 MOA still no good. One more adjustment and the Kings were averaging 878 fps so back to the target to see if things got any better. I got a 5 shot group @ 47 yds that measured .37 MOA ;D Thats what I like to see. There was a 4 mph wind blowing on and off during the shooting and one shot in the group pulled out slightly opening it up from basically one tiny pellet size hole to the .37 MOA. It could have been me or the wind but it doesnt really matter cause its still a great group. I did a couple 80 yard groups with the King Heavies before adjusting the tune. They were decent 3 shot groups but after messing with the tune I believe the Kings are going to do much better 80 - 100 yds for accuracy based on shooting the two pellets side by side. The Wolverine is now ready for the ground squirrel and starling season ;)
Heres the pics from the accuracy testing:
This is the group from the Kings shooting @ 878 fps. The one hole on the right side of the group is the one I pulled or the wind pushed. Without that flyer you can see how tiny that group would have been.

This is one of the 80 yd groups with the King Heavies shooting @ 834 fps.

I should have some pics in the near future of some dead pests.

Makes me want to try a few things with the Rainstorm. I remember Ted Holdover dropping the fps in the Impact, and picking up more accuracy.
Worth a try! ;)

Nice shooting.....
I'm really thinkin about buying a wolverine. I think it would be perfect for desert shooting.
I just don't know if it could out shoot my m rod 25 cal ??

Michael its always worth a try. I see posts about people running JSB pellets and pushing them to 900 - 920 fps and claiming they are getting the best accuracy at those speeds but I have never seen any where near the best accuracy at speeds above 880 fps with any caliber or weight JSB pellet or any pellet for that matter.
Nice shooting.....

Thank you.
My Mrod shoots a .5 to .7 MOA group at 50 yds for an average and my Wolverine slightly bests my Mrod for average staying in the .4 - .5 range. As you can see by the target posted above the Wolverine has the potential to best the Mrod by half or more in group size. The other benefit with the Wolverine over the Mrod is the shot count, weight and overall balance of the Wolverine compared to the Mrod. The non regulated Wolverine has more than double the shot count for the same power level as the Mrod with both in stock configuration. If you go with the new regulated Wolverine Daystate is claiming 80 shots at 50 fpe for the .25. If you want a refined pcp with stellar accuracy and you dont mind paying the cost of a new Daystate or getting a solid used one for around $1,000 - $1,200 you wont be disappointed. The Mrod is a fine accurate pcp but like with anything else you get a more refined and balanced pcp with the Wolverine. Some dont think the extra price is worth the higher quality and attention to detail you get with higher end pcp rifles but I do and you are the only one who can decide if its worth it or not.
