Title: PCP air efficiency calculator and tank fill calculator
Post by: lloyd-ss on March 13, 2018, 03:37:37 PM
Some of you are probably already familiar with these, but here are a couple of handy calculators.

First is for the air efficiency for a pcp shot string.
You need the starting pressure and ending pressure of the string; the volume of the gun's air reservoir, the number of shots in the string, the average fps for the string, and the pellet weight.

Air Efficiency Calculator
http://calc.sikes.us/1/

The second calculator is for how many times you can fill your gun from a high pressure air tank.
You need to know the volume of your gun's reservoir in cc's, and you need to know the volume of your high pressure air tank in Cubic Feet. There is a chart at the bottom to help convert the cubic inch bottles and the "minutes" scba tanks to cubic feet like regular scuba tanks.  Be careful to enter the correct pressures in all of the blocks.

If You could put all your stuff on and app and Im talking ALL your stuff you could sell it easy and I would be the first customer. With your spread sheets and Calculators Id bet you could sell that app for $20 a pop and get lots of takers and the cool thing is it cant be copied as and app. JUST SAYING ;D

Thanks. Do you know where to get a pcp efficiency calculation formula, or app.? Lloyd's was the only one I was aware of.

If there is a way for the forum website to handle html/php code, the calculators could be moved there. The site these were on is no longer available and they need a new home.
I also have them in excel format but it's kind of clunky. Visual basic or something else like a phone app would be better. I just can't do the transfer and/or reprogramming myself.

Hopefully the administrators will know how to handle this. The forum can't let the calculators vanish in the air, imho...

Definitely a vote for the forum to take them over!   :D
I've used Lloyd's calculator many times while doodling different designs-it would be a terrible waste for it to vanish; after he went to the trouble of making it available to us all.
(BTW, thanks Lloyd!)

Hi there.  When I tap on the link, is gives me a message about requesting access.  I am guessing that with the amount of people who  might want to want use this, perhaps you will want to change permissions.  I would set it so it is publicly available to "anyone with the link" ...  The access defaults to anyone having the link being only a viewer, so they can't actually change your file.

Hi Lloyd, I just tried infinityfree.net, which seems to fit your criteria.  You could probably just upload your files there ...

http://appye.rf.gd/ (http://appye.rf.gd/)

I just created a simple hello world at the link above using my phone ...  They give you several subdomains to choose from, and php is supposedly happy there.

Patrick, Thanks very much for the info and link.  I will talk to the IT team (my wife) and see if she is willing to make the transition. The new site might be helpful for her, too, so might have some leverage, LOL.
Thanks,

Hi Bob,
Very good to say hello, and I hope you are doing well and staying busy. The airguns are more-or-less collecting dust as the OEM technology continues to make huge advances.
I do a little bit of lurking, but priorities have changed and the available hours in a day seem to be less. Or more like, what I get done in the available hours has become less. I am still building lots of things in my shop and outside.

Here is a pic of my latest machine. It helps with my motto of, "Learn something new every day."

Bob,
All I can say is high speed double acting air cylinder. Notice the 4 shock absorbers in the middle? The whole cylinder assembly slides like field artillery, so it doesn't destroy itself.

Ah yes, lab puppies are so cute, when they are being cute, haha.
Our daughter and her family got a second lab that is just about the same age as yours...... and behaves like yours.  From my experience, I think lab puppies come in 2 types: the sloppy friendly ones that roll on their backs and accidentally knock things over and want you to pet them, and,  the mischievous ones  where you are just hoping that the adolescent stage will end soon.

I have two lab puppies and your right. Female gets into everything and the male just falls over and wants his belly rubbed.

Good guess. It does cycle, but it is a launcher. Like an over-engineered potato gun. It has to fire projectiles that vary in diameter and in mass, such that the kinetic energy repeatably falls within a narrow range. It replicates a real-world phenomenon.

Here is a basic PCP air efficiency calculator for Excel. Nothing fancy. It works for PCPs with, and without, regulators.
To download, right-click the file, and click "Save As", and it should show up as a .txt file. Save it.
If you are successful in downloading and saving the file, rename the file to change the .txt extension to .xlsx before opening it.

If the Excel file cannot be downloaded with a .txt extension, we'll have to try a different method for you to get access to it.

Just downloaded it-worked for me; although I opened it slightly different-I opened the Properties menu, and selected Spreadsheets to open it (WPS Office in my case)-opened right up as the calculator...
Thanks Lloyd!!!  :D

This is Lloyd. I did post that file in reply #26, and it does have excel code in it for the PCP air efficiency calculator, but it contains no macros nor viruses. Just the file for the efficiency calculator.  I don't think so, but I might have violated a GTA rule, and if so, I apologize. If I did, please delete the file in reply #26. If that is the case, anyone who wants the calculator can contact me via PM and I will send them the excel file.
Sorry for any violations or confusion.

I had hoped to get the calculator re-posted to the web, but the IT department, ha ha, said the wait time is measured in months..... if I am lucky.

Just realized that I transposed some letters in your name-apologies!!  :-[
Haven't yet figured out how to get it saved as a .xlsx file; but it's working just fine as-is, makes a very handy tool to get a better grip on possible performance of different-size reservoirs-just in time for me to start getting back out in the shop too  ;D
Thanks again Lloyd,

Lloyd,

I don't think there is any problem with your attachment in this thread, because you explained exactly what it is.  I raised a query about your test attachment in the backroom via email, not because I thought you were being naughty, but because I though someone might have hacked your GTA account.

If .XLSX files are not listed as an acceptable file type for attachment on GTA, but ZIP files are, then ZIP your Excel file and attach it.  Usually I am weary of downloading ZIP files because it is easy to make them self extracting with malicious code.  That was not my concern when I emailed you.  Rather that someone else, posing as you might have done it.

Actually, I am glad you brought that to my attention. I uploaded that file rather casually, without thinking that it could be viewed as suspect, even though I knew it was clean. It's like having a close call in the shop: no harm is done, but it really wakes you up as to what MIGHT have happened.

Looks like a rail gun.  But for potatoes?
The excel file downloaded and opened perfectly.  Thanks.
P.S.  In my perfect world, your project would be focused on figuring out what makes a batch of pellets great.  I can sort a typical batch of JSB .177 13.4 MRDs to the nth degree but get wider spreads than a "great" shooting batch that isn't sorted and varies wildly in weight, head size, yrrah roll, head and skirt appearance, joker-device concentricity, etc.

I am sorry gentlemen, I am always terribly late in my respones as I don't follow the forum reguralry.
I downloaded the efficiency calculator and works fine in LibreOffice in Linux.
However, the last column I think it must be renamed "FPE per cuin" (not cuin per FPE). Hence, the higher the number the bigger the efficiency.

Stavros,
You are correct. Thank you for catching that. I will make the change to the file and upload it again.
In the mean time, anyone can make the correction on their own copy, by enabling editing. The password to do that is in cell P1 of the spreadsheet.

Today I tested the App installation to my Android phone. That worked great!
Now I need to finish the stuff to get it to work properly.
When SWMBO is home I'll have her test on her phone since she has an IPhone.

Once I'm sure that the App stuff installs properly? I'll work on the final looks and math involved.

As it is right now? The App does work fine on my Android phone. Just need to get the fields to display properly and have a better interface.
