Hi guys,
I have an ATAC in .22 (sub 12 ft/lb) which I brought on an impulse several years ago. I also brought and fitted a GRT3 trigger as I'd read that it was a good replacement for the stock one. After several years of not making the time to use it I finally got it out and started trying to zero the scope.
Today I had a target at 35yds but just couldn't get a consistent group of shots. The best I managed was 9/10 hitting the 14x14cm target card but by no means in a consistent group. After this the zero actually seemed to get worse and move around.
The gun must have had 200-300 AA Diablo fields through it since I had it and another 100 H&N Barracuda Match today (brought yesterday as I read they are best for this gun). The scope is mounted tightly and I haven't found any loose screws elsewhere. I got my best results with a relatively loose hold supported on a table. I also tried using a bipod but if anything the results were worse.
Reading the forums it seems that some people suspect the scope that comes with the gun is generally the problem. That said, watching some videos on YouTube there seem to be people getting much better results than I am.
Any ideas on what might be wrong or what I can do to improve my results? I'm sure some of the inaccuracy is down to my technique but I'd have thought I should be able to consistently get 7-8/10 shots hit a 14x14cm target card while shooting off a table?
Very frustrating afternoon. I'm considering buying a hawke scope and mounts but if the gun is just no good then thats just throwing good money after bad. A half decent scope will cost almost what the ATAC package cost. Perhaps it's better to write this off and save that money towards a used PCP? :(

The scope on mine only lasted around 80 shots.

Not upset at all as i never expect much with a bundled scope. After a trigger install and aftermarket scopes I've been very pleased with the s2.

Thanks, seems like my scope has survived unusually long then! When you say it didn't last how did you know it was broken, just accuracy gone to &^^& or it physically broke?
I have the GRTIII trigger too. Were you able to get your adjusted nicely? I don't seem to be able to get a nice 2-stage feel on mine, it's odd, when the gun isn't cocked I absolutely get the 2-stage feel - i.e pull back and get a soft 1st stage then it hits a wall of higher resistance that I can pull through. When it's cocked I don't get any sort of 2-stage feel and the pull is very short. Does that sound wrong to you?

Went to adjust zoom and it bound up. When i looked through the reticle had canted. Then the ao simply froze in that magnification with a canted reticle.
I do not have the cdt trigger i purchased another one. At the time i didn't know even the original owner only accepted cash/mo
Either way, once i got it trimmed correctly the trigger has been a night and day difference and so far i made no adjustments. Actually i may fiddle with it now you mention it becsuse its actually a tad light. Very little 2nd stage feel here as well.
Also, when i called AGD about the scope, in a round about way they kinda told me the bundled scope was junk but they'd send another one out anyways. I just decided why bother, wasn't upset though.

The only thing consistent with my ATAC when I got it were the flyers it produced. You may want to try swapping out the mounts. Get the lowest profile mount possible that will still allow the scope to be mounted without touching the gun. The mounts on mine caused the same problem you are having until I changed them.
I also removed all of the stock screws, cleaned out the screw holes with alcohol and Q Tips to remove any oil that may have been present. Applied some light duty Loctite to the screws then snugged them all down securely but not too tight with equal torque the best I could.

Sounds like a scope issue...I think all of the bundled scopes I've ever had broke quickly.
Another thing might be that you have some droop and the vertical adjustment is at its limit.

I had a problem very much like yours Sir.
I had barrel droop on my Custom Built & Power Tuned Stoeger X-3 with Ball Detent Lock-Up. I shimmed the scope and everything was fine.
It was an excellent shooter after shimming.
Best Wishes - Tom
