Title: Rebuild on some old guns
Post by: mercdv on June 14, 2011, 12:29:14 AM
I have 2 old guns I want to rebuild. One is my very first hunting rifle a Daisy Powerline 881 and the second is a Daisy Model 120 which was my first break barrel rifle. I can't much info on the forums here. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to proceed. My 881 had a problem with a seal or something on the compression chamber and is in pieces now but I know I have all of them. The 120 is a springer which probably needs a new seal and a spring. It still shoots accurately but I won't know the power on it until my chrony arrives this week. I really want to rebuild these because they were my first real air rifles from when I was a kid.

Thoughts?

The 120 shouldn't be much of a problem.  That is a rebadged Gamo model.  Do believe Gene's gold trigger might even fit, which would make it a nice short range gun.  The 881 I'm not so sure about.  Same as an 880?  The older 880's are about impossible to repair.  I have one and looked into kits, etc.  From what I could find on the 'net, Bryan and Associates or another individual bought up all the parts for the first model 880 some years back.  If it is a newer model, contact Daisy at their website.  Those you can probably get parts for.  I take it you oiled the felt washer on the pump before tearing it down?  Might want to reassemble after everything's been cleaned up and try her again.  Also can't hurt to ask on the Crosman forum.  Lots of pumper people hanging out there.

Ive got a model 120 also. Have had it about 21 yrs now and bought it used so dont know how old it actually is. The inside on mine are quite a bit different from any of my other guns and i could not find much info on it. If you find an exploded view please share. Id love to see what all is holding it together. Mine is still holding mid 550's and pin point accurate to about 25 yds. Its a nice little gun to shoot and fit my 12 yr old daughter to a tee so i dont want to destroy it. Lol

Ok, I found a forum that had the Daisy 881 break down and rebuild part list (JG part numbers and all). I won't post the link since it's a competitive forum and I don't think that's good practice.

RedFeather, I would have oiled the felt but that's one of the problems...it absolutely disintegrated. It appears to have reacted with something over the years.

Onebaddj, I found these parts explosion but I haven't opened mine yet to see if it applies. I'm guessing that the first one is going to be the same but won't know for sure until I tear it down. The second one might apply so I'm posting it too just in case.
