Title: Trusty ole Bullboss
Post by: Slippy117 on January 26, 2018, 11:30:51 AM
Last night I put a new scope on the Bullboss.   An Athlon Argos.   Zeroed it by shooting a spot on a tree at 25yrds.
So this morning, I spot a squirrel (right side in pic) at about 20yrds.    He spooked when I opened the balcony door.    But only when up the infamous "Death Tree" and casually perched.     So I slide behind the glass at 16X.  Put the very fine crosshairs of the Argos on his noggin and let a 33.95 jsb fly.
The pellet perfectly finds its mark.  Nutter falls and proceeded to leave this world with the death dance as a final celebration.
While watching the dance, I notice that the shadow of the tree has some movement.  Thinking that theres no way it would be another squirrel still hanging out.  I sit and watch for a minute.
Well, it sure was another squirrel (left in photo).    Hes inverted on the tree, barking at his comrades body.
I chamber another pellet, and let it fly.  "THWACK!"  got him.    Hes hanging on the tree still inverted with a steady stream of red falling to the ground.    He finally falls from the tree and gives a few low effort kicks.     A 33.95 JSB to the brain box sent him on his way.

Edit, per my tradition of always posting too soon.  I just bagged #3 of this morning.   Small male sniffing the blood of the others at the base of the tree of death.      He moved as i sent the pellet on his way.  Ended up with a neck shot.    It was still lights out.

Nice shooting and great pics.  That one nutter sure suffered some serious head damage.   Good shooting  :)

Sometimes im lazy, sometimes i put in the effort.
To headshot or not to headshot, that is the question.   :P

And thank you guys,   I'm also keeping in my tradition of posting too soon.    Just bagged #3 of this morning.   At the base of the "Tree of death " sniffing the others blood.

This is pure poetry!

At the base of the "Tree of death " sniffing the others blood.
We will also accept "The Killing Tree"

Good shooting with your Bullboss.  It's good to have a "death tree".  I think most of us do.

Only problem with a favorite death tree is I shot so many squirrels on it and near the base of the tree when they were inverted and would stop a few feet off the ground, that there are a lot of .22 and .25 holes in the tree trunk.  I noticed a few years ago the bark was starting to separate in that area and die, probably from lead poisoning.  Trees need the bark to survive.  I have not shot anything on that tree in 5 years, in hopes it doesn't die.  If it does it will probably hit the house it's so tall.

So be carefully shooting at your trees.  They don't like lead.

I prefer the Killing Tree. Sounds more purposeful.

Nice shot buddy. I have that Argos scope too, and for a FFP with that glass at that price, man it's a great value. Thanks Jeremy for turning me onto that.

Only complaint, a bit heavy. I'll live.

I got the 8x34 with MOA retical.  Kinda wish i went with the lower power.    Much above 24x ish isnt really useable unless you are on a bench.       This scope is actually going to go on my Bwalton. 30 once i get it.     .  It was bothering me that it was collecting dust so i tossed it on the Bullboss.
I really like the scope for the money.   I also love that they offer it in MOA

I got the 6-24 x 50. I rarely use anything above 16x, and I generally keep it on 12 for hunting/pest control. I went with the mil/mil setup because I have a small brain, and if I'm off on my zero by half a mil dot, I know that is 5 clicks, full dot 10 clicks, and so on.

No math involved  ;D

So you are going Hatsan big time? What do you like about that line? Early on I looked at Hatsans, but back then I think they were having some QC issues that they have maybe ironed out now. They are a good value it seems. Lotta gun for the money. A .30 should be a great small/medium game whacker. Good luck with it.

I went with the higher mag because  even on my lower power scopes i never really find myself below 12x.l and rarely 9x     The Moa/moa version is the same as mill/mill.   I know if im off 1 moa (two lines) i need 4 clicks (1/4 moa click)     1 moa also happens to be 1" @100 yards . No math neaded.   Made measurements easy for me atleast.

As far as Hatsan,   the Bullboss is my first from them and my only, until i get the .30 in.    I was impressed with the Bullboss,  and after watching bwalton's  videos and talking to him, the .30 fits my needs.  Im intending on thinning out some yotes on a property in VT.
Also thier prices are hard to beat.   Unfortunately as far as their pcp line of guns, after the .30 i dont think there is much they have that spikes my interest.
Im considering the flashpup as my woods gun, but i would probably sell the Bullboss first.   The flashpup is like 6lbs so it would be good as a woods gun.
