Title: Valve set screw material?
Post by: charliek on January 24, 2018, 01:41:13 PM
Hello all, have my at44-10 QE long torn apart and ready to do the Rsterne valve mods to it. This may be a goofy question but is there any difference between stainless 6-32x.375" set screws instead of carbon steel ones being used? I know JB weld is used to fill valve groove afterwards but didn't know if would be better to stick with non-stainless hardware when using JB weld regarding adhering to the screws? Not trying to over think, but ready to tap, plug and reassemble!! Any opinions or thoughts?

Tensile strength of stainless is far less. Read post #14 of this thread:

Thank you Gut2Fish. I should have searched before blasting out a question. Ironic Rsterne commented on this just yesterday! Decision made, appreciate your help  :D
