Title: Very low wind effects on pellets...
Post by: Dairyboy on January 22, 2018, 01:31:40 AM
So early this morning I was out shooting some groups with my Taipan Veteran Standard in .22 for a guy who wanted to see 10 shot groups at 50yds. I hate shooting in any sort of wind with pellets as I know it makes a big difference but it was pretty light so thought why not. Big eye opener for me!

34* this morning with a light variable wind 1-5mph from the East and I was shooting directly South. 55yds lasered from front of bench to the target. Held POI the same on every shot and no wind flags to tell on the wind. I just shot no waiting on wind. Groups shot from left to right first 2 are JSB 18gr and next 3 were AA 16gr and 10 shots each. I then did a group with my .30 WARP to get a basis as I know how to get that gun shoots at 55yds and even then the wind affected one shot.

Veteran is shooting the 16gr at 930fps so assuming 890fps for 18gr. WARP shooting the 44gr at 820.

Crazy what a tiny bit of wind can do to these pellets. I always knew it but never really saw the results myself!

Lol yeah I'm actually getting into sub 12fpe springers for backyard shooting and close range pesting. So I doubt I'll be taking them out in any kind of wind at 7.5fpe and 11fpe lol

Yep.
Next really calm day you have. Put up some sticks with pieces of dollar store plastic bags hanging on them.
When the flags go straight down, and it looks like 0 wind. Light yourself up a piece of incense and watch the smoke.
