A couple of months ago I had bought a new Competition Electronics Prochrono digital to replace my old one that was shot... I mean REALLY shot!
So while searching I ran across this barrel mounted one on Amazon for $50 bucks.
Now I had considered the MagnetoSpeed unit but I'm just not going to pay that much... they are massively overpriced IMHO.
So $50 dollars, that's just a meal at a nice restaurant for me so I bought one and surprisingly, I like it.
I have used it on .45, .25, .22 and .177 and it gives a comparable reading to the Prochrono.
What's really cool is putting it on the muzzle and adjusting your tune by shooting down into a 5 gal. bucket of sand (cardboard taped over the top and shooting VERTICALLY and not close to the side so you don't shoot thru the side of the bucket - and shoot yourself in a fit of dumba**) while sitting at my workbench! Saves a LOT of time at the shooting bench when you finally get there and I can focus on accuracy.
I don't like the mounting method but understand what they are trying to accomplish - fitting almost everything. The manufacturer has two swapable end pieces with numerous holes drilled in patterns and you fit 3 or 4 guide rods to the set of holes that will fit your barrel diameter, even shrouded barrels. I do not use the tye wraps provided to secure the rods along the barrel, but instead use duct tape. It holds even on a Texan .45 If you leave a little .5 gap between the muzzle and the face of the unit to vent some gas. On rifles like .25 I just mounted it flush to the muzzle.
I will be making a better mount but it is usable as is for those who are not Jack of All Trades, Maker types. Just be aware of the TINY screws that have to be tight so they don't fall out inside the electronics box but not stripped off or the Phillips slots rounded off either (screwdriver provided)
It is battery powered (USB charging port) and I have used it for over an hour on one charge continuous but ran it all day (200 shots in 10 hours) using the auto shutoff and turning it back on when I shot a string, off 1 min inactive.
Switch displayed units from metric to US Imperial
FPS: It records from 20 to 1000 m/s { 65 - 3280 FPS }
FPE: From 0 to 999 J { 0 to 736 FPE }
and will accept pellets from 0.01 to 99.99 gr
Has a back light but I turned that off to save battery
Can record 120 shots in six groups but I have not used that much capability and reset the unit before I got there each time
I am not able to post a photo or a link for some reason (Yes, I know: Forum Policy!) but the chrony is sold on Amazon.
This unit has promise and is quite usable if user care is taken in appreciation of its mounting weaknesses. For the price it's a great unit. Some manufacturer development and they've got a winner.

Is this the chronograph:

HT appears to be the brand. And HT-X3000 the model.

Yup, that's it. Used it today in my hallway shooting range to test a different pellet in my .25 Marauder.

One more vote of confidence for this little chrono. I made a wooden bracket that is much more convenient and sturdy than the little brass rods they provide. With the addition of a couple of shims it will accommodate a variety of barrel sizes. It's compact, self powered and needs no external lights.
My only gripe is that I have to manually copy the values into a spreadsheet.
