Title: New 760 questions
Post by: mac on January 18, 2018, 11:03:26 AM
I,m trying to get my newish 760 shooting good enough to enter the 10m pumper paper shoot here. So far the only thing that I have been shooting at is a fence post 35yrds from my garage that I could hit most of the time.
I set up to shoot some groups in the basement yesterday at 28ft and could not enen come close to any kind of group and I,m pretty sure it is because my bad eyes, with or without glasses, can not focus on both the target and open sights.
So my question is - is it worth running over to walmart and getting a cheap scope for this gun or will it still be tough to group with the smooth bore? My next option was to get a 2100 or 880,but no one has either one in stock close to me and I would rather get the 760 to work if possible so I can spend money on a different gun.

Hi Scott,
The newish 760s are smooth bores and not as accurate as the rifled 880s. In fact, I have a couple rifled 760s that are a few decades old, and they are not as accurate as 880s.
Some people install Crosman M4 barrels on their 760s to improve accuracy.
Good luck!

EDIT:
I haven't played with it too much yet, but after limited shooting, it seems the 2100 is more accurate (and more expensive) than the 880s. I've also found older 766s and 66s to be accurate, and I've come across those locally for pretty cheap.
Have fun!

Thanks Dan !

I had to run out for some plumbing supplies for a bathroom repair and while there I picked up a cheap 10.00 crosman 4x scope and some daisy wadcutters that don,t say what grain they are.
While the scope is not super clear at 28ft (basement range) it does allow me to see what I,m aiming at and with the short amount of time I,ve been messing around with it I have been able to get okay groups.Maybe even good enough to enter the pumper paper 10m match and come in last LOL!
I have it pretty much zeroed in using 7.4 crosman flats with 5 pumps giving the best results.I then tried the Daisy flats and they grouped okay but down and to the right so maybe the scope has to be reset for different pellets?
It is a pretty cheap, toy like feeling gun,but I,m having fun and I get a kick out of how hard the little guy hits the paper.I also really like the five round clip!

You'll want to Install a rifled barrel into it, maybe lighten the trigger spring a bit, and figure out which pellet it likes best.
