I love my vintage pumpers.
I also love punchin paper with them to check accuracy.
I enjoy the off season Match gates for time at the bench on therse long cold winter days.
If you feel the same and would like our own casual match competition. Chime in here.

Sounds great! We talkin off the bench or standin offhand like REAL MEN or REAL WOMEN? I'm somewhat capable either way, but I'm not as good as I used to be shooting offhand. The last couple days I've had a slew of my Webleys and other air pistols with my chrono set up on the kitchen table. Had a couple real surprises!........................
-
I’m three and half hours away in Wooster, Ohio. Be fun to have a shoot and pass around our old treasures and see what we can hit. Warmer weather would be a positive! Lol
-
EXCELLENT IDEA SCOTT!
-
We are trying to set up a 10M Casual Match for Vintage Pumpers, Modern Pumpers, and Vintage Everything Else. and are working on the rules. A casual match means just about anything goes as for as shooting aids (except the the gun buttstock must touch your shoulder). Please post your suggestions/comments at:

I have a 2200 that II believe was built in the early 80's. I'll give it a go if the the rifle holds air. I need to check it out. I just keep putting it off.
-
I’m getting “pumped”! Lol
-
Oh boy....
If the M/M Daisy 880 w/scope qualifies, I might be in. If Betty Lou gets in, ya'll in trouble.
-
That would be a good workout for my model 66, I'm in.
-
OUTSTANDING FOLKS!
Sounds like Jim is going to get this set up in the Shooting Match Gate. Maybe as soon as starting this Sunday.
-
IT'S HERE!
Jim set us up with our own Casual Match to while away the winter months.
https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=138319 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=138319)
Classes are:
• Vintage Pumper (VP) (as defined in the Vintage Gate – manufactured pre-1985)
• Modern Pumper (MP) (Manufactured after 1984)
• Vintage Everything Else (VEE) (as defined in the Vintage Gate – manufactured pre-1985)
So the vintage Pumper guys AND the vintage CO2 / Springer can play as well
Come and join the fun... and that is what it is all about FUN!
-
That has tuff competition written all over it. All 3 of those classes include some very accurate shooters.
-
I know for a fact two of your
old previously owned guns will be competing.
;)

-
You do know that even an accurate gun is only as good as the shooter... right?
Wait... I didn't check the rules... is trash talkin allowed?
-
Yep, I know there are designated target guns... I wanted a Match for these old guns so any score above 100 is acceptable. ;)
I know I can with a target gun, so now it is what can the OTHER GUNS I own that need lovin do?
I did not see any regs on talkin smack... or side bets for that matter.
;D
-
Well, since smack is ok... I don’t think I’ve ever seen a smaller bulls-eye. It’s gonna be like setting a gnat out there at 10m, having him do spread eagle, take his n%ts off & nothing else. That dime I set at 40 yds is gonna look like a silver dollar when this is done. ;D
-
Dang. Both old 760's are down for restoration at the moment. Kinda cold for the 160 Pellgun too...unless I break out the hair drier to warm the gas tube here and there? And these Gamo 10M targets are only $5 per 100ct box. But even at 10yds, that bull's eye looks more like the diameter of the pellet I'm firing at it. So I'd have to use the 160 Pellgun for the time being?
Anyway, here's a couple targets I did with the 760-D;
H&N sniper light (.177) 7.5gr;
(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/640x480q90/922/qVUVrA.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/pmqVUVrAj)
JSB Exact Express, 7.87gr;

Marty: I seem to remember a fellow member here with a name similar to yours saying something like "Only 10M.. Dang Scott, stretch its legs out!" when I posted a target shot with either my 'Dan or 392P ::) Hmmmmmm.
And Leonard, That is some mighty fine shootin... please join us! I plan on using my 160 in the VEE class except with a Peep.
You'll have to use one of the two the regulation targets for it outlined in the rules of course. ;D

Where did all the paper punchers go? Thought someone would have posted up by now?

Those 55 targets are gonna be difficult at best for me to see @ 50ft, or 16.67yds. Even with the 4x32 scope...
-
It's 10 meters.... 32 foot-ish
-
Leonard, I too have bad eyesight. My 4x32mm scope works fine for these targets at 10 yrds or like Scott mentioned, 32' or so. It's my 2x20mm scope that gives me problems. Sounds like you may have your target set too far. ;)
-
Where did all the paper punchers go? Thought someone would have posted up by now?
Cold outside!!
-
Common Steve. No excuses...
-
Somebody said it was 50 feet, so that's 16.67 yards. Or is it a 50 foot target at 10 yards? Y'all aren't very clear on that one?

I’m still looking for my meter stick? But then I might loose it in the snow?
-
I gotcha Steve. It must be hard if U can't get out. Here NM we haven't had any precept in 4 months. Todays high 54. I'll try to get some shooten in...finally. ;)
-
Wanna do it, just ain't had any time!
-
know what you mean Jeff. I have a couple hrs after work but afraid it will take me more time than that. 10 yrds (give or take) is close if your shooting at dimes. Another story if your target is a gnat's privates.
-

Must've miss-read it. Gotcha. Can't shoot around here at all outside. So I'd have to goto Gun Hub at 15.99 each per day and no ride to get there.

I really think this is a post to make us Ohio guys feel bad? I propose a 15 ft living room shoot with prewar pistols? Since I’ll probably be the only participant, I declare myself the winner. Lol
-
Well then... here ya go!

Leonard, then how did you or how were you planning on 50 feet targets you posted?....I am confused.
Bare in mind guys... if you check the Date on the matches, they usually run for two weeks to give everyone a chance to shoot.
Me? I usually find myself scrambling on the very last day. ::)
LOL
-
You guys need to be creative. Set a target outside, pop open a window inside, & go to town.
-
I read a long thread about the whole mess and it was talking about 50' targets, etc, etc, yada yada yada. It was talking all kinda stuff about what to do. The target list was a 50' one, etc. Idk?....I just work here...
-
GEZ LADDIES & GENTS...GET OUT THERE & SHOOT THEM THANGS!
-
I'd love too! Maybe from the kitchen table to the far side of the garage would add up to 30', or 10yds?
-
There you go Leonard, be creative! ;D Heck, if your snowed in, open up the garage door or bedroom window & & & &...
It's all about having fun. Heck, if it was about competition I wouldn't have posted any of my rounds. :(
-
No shooting outside around here, no matter how. Stool pigeon Indians next door. Too bad they're not American Indians?! They'd likely join me, as I'm the grandson of an Apache chief!

-
Well, smack has already been cleared, so lemesee, it's often heard; tack driver this, tack driver that, his a tack driver, she's a tack driver, every bodies a tack tack driver driver...WELL???
-
I'll have to get out the tape measure and see what it adds up too. It would be nice to do some kind of competition again.
-
Did some shooting again today. This time with Hop Sing. She started acting up. Held onto the air. Took up to 3 cycles to completely dump. So spent several hrs running her through another alcohol flush. Knock on wood...she's never shot better. Talk about a fun gun to shoot! She is a tac driver. Now if I can just figure out how to drive that tac.
-
I'd love to join in if I could only get wadcutter pellets for my 20 cal blue streak. All my 20 cal pellets just tear ragged holes making scoring a guess at best. Even tried shooting my Benjamin pellets backwards. They tore an even bigger ragged hole. :(
-

Tape the target to cardboard. It'll help in keep the paper from tearing.
-
Now how about those pistols?
Is there enough interest to start a 5 Meter vintage pistol match?
-
Count me in on the 5M Modern Pumper category.
-
I've got a couple vintage that I'm sure shoot better than I do..........
-
Well heck, might as well join in then huh?
;)
-
Well, since my 760 variant 4 is shooting so well, maybe I can get room in the other end of the dinette to the far wall of the garage? This thing seems like it'll be yet another Crosman tack driver @ 10yds?

You have some nice rifles Leonard. I'm looking forward to seeing them in action. ;)
-
Thanks. I like restoring/modding them as well. Dad always taught us to care for our guns, " like fine furniture". This 760 variant 4 seems to like the JSB Exact Express, 7.87gr a bit more than the H&N sniper light, 7.5gr.
**PS- Y'all have got to be kidding!? I just printed the 5.5mm target. At even 10yds, I'll be lucky to see each target, let alone the tiny bull's eye, at 6x even. Oh well, Guess I asked for it. I dood it!
-
Jim, I’m assuming this is a disqualified round? Double loaded one.
-
You would have to drop that pair. Or count the lower score. I did the same the other night not paying attention.
Still looks like a great target.
Jim
-
Had it...& totally messed up. Guess I'll hang onto it for now.
Thanks
-
You would have to drop that pair....
Jim
If it is Bull #11 it looks like he did drop it.
So it is good to go... no?
DARN NICE Marty!
-
Scott:
Marty did drop that pair so the target is good to go.
I bet Marty is waiting to post the 200-20X target.
Jim
-
I've created a Monster.
;D
-
Maybe several. I know I find target shooting (paper punching) challenging. It looks like a number of others do to.
If everyone gets to shooting 200s in the vintage match, we will just have to change the target to the benchrest target. ;D (is this the right one for wicked grin)
JIm

You mean there's uglier targets than this? Maybe a bull 1/32"? :o ;)
Thanks Scott. Wind gusting to 40mph. Hid behind a shed & crossed my fingers the wind would shuve it somewhere in the middle. Gave up when the wind gusts hit 45-50.
-
Marty,
Check out the target for the 10M benchrest match.
https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=139108.0 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=139108.0)
10 ring is barely wider than a 177 pellet and you score to the lowest line touched. It takes a perfect shot to score a 10. Scott does well at it. I'm waiting for Glassman98 (Craig) to turn in a perfect score on it.
Marty, if you like off hand shooting, try the 10M off hand match. I would bet that you will do well in it.

Jim
-
That’s crazy Jim. I’d have to modify the front & rear sight of the 880 & hope I can hold. You guys are insane. Gave me something to think about though. Might give another 880 the same mods as this one & figure something out on the sights.
Off hand match. Another you've got to be kidding. I'm having a hard enough time with a bench. ???
-
10 ring is barely wider than a 177 pellet and you score to the lowest line touched.
That sucker is TOUGH!
-
I was only kidding when I said 1/32". It may even be less. :o
-
I ran a copy of the bench target & sure enough there is only about 1/32" of play with the wadcutter. Problems off the bat is there is no way I can see the bull with open sights & the scopes I have will not dial in that exact, however there is a nice dark oversized circle that I may be able to guesstamate zero just for kicks. :-\
-
Well, there's a couple things I didn't take into account. Shooting from the couch on the edge of the living room/dinette, I forgot about the angled corner on that side of the room and the baker's shelf standing there. Might still be able to squeeze it in?
-

Shot a couple of trial runs w/the 880. Might be able to pull off a couple of not so embarrassing scores. R there any matches for pumpers?
-
Marty,
There is not a specific class for pumpers in the 10M benchrest match. Turn a score in and label it as a pumper and I'll see what I can do.
Jim
-
Thanks Jim. If it works fine, if not that’s ok as well. Just wanted to pose the question just in case I launched a couple somewhere in the middle.
-

Hey Leonard, sounds to me like its time to rearrange the furniture & tear down some walls. Sounds like a comfortable seating area though. :)
-
So, in light of that reply, here's what I have to deal with;
(https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/640x480q90/924/S98jMA.jpg) (https://imageshack.com/i/poS98jMAj)
That door leads down 2 steps into the garage. So I'd also have to shoot over the top of the Escort to the far wall of the garage and find a way to set up a stable area for my backstop on top of everything...
-
I'd try shooting through a window into the yard. All the noise inside. Just be sure to open the window first. As long as nothing is falling from the trees, the neighbors should not notice.
Or you could just make the targets really tiny so you could shoot from 5 or 6 ft away?
-
The Escort you have inside the door to the right wants out.
-

Have you ran copies of the targets? There's plenty of room in that circle.
Just yanking your chain. Glad you have a sense of humor.
-
I used too set up in the foyer and shoot 10-15 yards out the back patio door. Indians next door heard my son and I shooting like that one Saturday, saw the target on the backstop propped on top of an 8' ladder and called the cops. No shooting, launching or throwing anything in this burg. Dang. So I have to be creative and only shoot in the middle of weekdays while they're all at work.
-
I'd set a target or two out there and then do nothing. Drive them nuts. Call the cops and they find you just have a target in the yard, no shooting. Your own version of lawn art.
-
So...where are all the fans of these matches that said they'd be joining in on the fun???
-
Man, I tried my hand too late in the game. I couldn't see the bull, and so just tried to guesstimate center. It did not go well....I even tried marking up the bull with permanent marker to make them more visible (assumed a no-no). Didn't help at all, I think my score was barely in the triple digits. Is there a fresh one going on now?
-
I'm pretty sure these matches are back to back Jeff. When one ends another one begins (in a day or two), & they run for two weeks each.
Here's the lattest one;
https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=139867.0 (https://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=139867.0)
-
Thanks Marty. I still have some targets printed. We'll see if I can get something done on this one.
-
Hey Jeff. I have the same problem; seeing that flea at 10M with open sights. Here is one of my overlays. My wife has already made arrangements with the shrink.
-
Here is one of my overlays.
Beg your pardon?
-
Here is one of my overlays.
Beg your pardon?
Do u want me to splain or is this sheeting?
-
I don't make the rules so can't say...
Guess just ask yourself, does it give you an unfair advantage?
Early on I thought about using a yellow "highlighter" on the center ring, but decided that wasn't fair to the others who were not doing it. Just take my bad scores with the good.
It is a casual match after all, so it's no big deal.
-
I checked the rules Scott.
I really don’t see how this or a yellow highlighter is an advantage over someone with good eyesight or a high powered scope. However if it’s deemed against the rules I’m ok with that.
-
My eyesight is corrected with Rx glasses, so taken to extremes I guess that could be a shooting aid as well.
But without them I could not see past the front sight. ;D :o ;D
-
I just shoot the match to show off my pumpers, not my shooting skills or lack of, and it gets me some exercise, when shut in from the weather.
-
I’m sure there are a lot of folks out there that would like to participate but can’t or are unwilling to do so because they cannot see the target. I think that’s unfortunate. Just threw this idea out there as an alternative. After all, this is supposed to be a fun match. Hitting the mark is tough enough, but not being able to see what you’re shooting at, well…
-
That is why I use this target option... much easier for me to see.
-
These are casual matches so the cross hatch and highlights are okay for the pumper match as long as the regular lines can be seen. I guess that would apply to all of the off season matches that I am hosting. You would have to ask one of the moderators for the other matches and regular season matches when they start.
Both Marty2 and I have highlighted the center ring in pistol matches. Didn't help me, still couldn't see the target. That's why I had to scope my pistol.
The only advantage that I can see to the cross hatch is helping to prevent cant and that would only work if the target is mounted perfectly vertical and a scope is being used.
Jim
-
And there you have it!
Thanks Jim

-
The only advantage that I can see to the cross hatch is helping to prevent cant and that would only work if the target is mounted perfectly vertical and a scope is being used.
Jim
Jim, I literally cannot see the target. Not only the dot but the outer rings as well. The lines are with a sharpie (bold). It is placed above the actual target.
As for the 10M Bench Rest match. I use the bold outer ring as a guide. That method is what lead me to the overlay sheet.
-
That is why I use this target option... much easier for me to see.
I tried that one & it's harder for me to use w/o a scope. The white area between the bold lines & dot is too large an area try & guesstamate POI. Unlike the 10M Bench Match target w/the bold 7 ring. Maybe I can figure out a way to mount a scope on the 880 w/o messing it up too much.
-
Or just keep doing what you been doing, seems to work for you!
-
Ok, so maybe the 101 is out and I just need to mount a scope on the Mod1!
-
Ok, so maybe the 101 is out and I just need to mount a scope on the Mod1!
I hope the scope works out ok for you Jeff.
I find precision shooting much more difficult with a scope. At least those with fixed objectives which are what I have, which are usually set at 100-150 yards. With this type shooting (10M) it is extremely difficult to keep POI, especially with a standard rifle scope mount. Just the slightest shift in eye alignment will throw POI. My scout mount scopes are a little easier to control, at least for me. I might have to look at parallax scopes. These are much more forgiving for close range shooting & when eye alignment isn’t perfect.
-
I was looking for the right gun to use to join in the fun again this weekend and believe me, I played with a lot of them.... I don't want to mess with the one 880 m/m too much because Betty Lou and I use a matching pair constantly in our "beer can/paintball" games at 35yds regularly and she beats me often enough now without changing my gun.
Anyhow.. of the half dozen or so guns that I'm testing with I think I found "the one"...
We bought a pair of refurbished Crosman Classic 2100s a couple years ago. I got 2 sets of walnut stocks/pump handles from EGilman for them. I've since replaced the walnut set on mine with a beautiful mesquite set of wood from EGilman that I picked up along the way. It also has a solid brass adjustable piston pump in it and some trigger work by yours truly. It's topped with a UTG 4x32 Mil-dat AO scope. At 3 pumps with Daisy wadcutters it proving to be quite accurate. Those are followed closely by Crosman Destroyer Premiums.
I printed out 50 of the targets you guys have been using in the matches this morning at work and I'm looking forward to joining the fun. I even set up a dedicated 10m range on our rear deck complete with mini fridge, lights and music all of which should be part of the casual match rules.... ;)
-
What about some of the green, blue, & red guys/gals? Shoot, I thought longhunter would be all over this?
-

Sounds like a very nice performing & good looking pumper. I’m looking forward to seeing it in action & looking forward to the pix.
FWIW; I don't see this as a competition. Any competition for me is between me, myself, & I. These matches are more than that. I see them as a great way to get close & personal with each gun.
It's amazing how different each one is. I find myself starting from scratch not only on the different models but the same models as well. Every one of them has their own personalities & their own quarks. They are certainly not the perfect match gun but they are certainly just as dead nuts accurate as anything else out there.

Here is a picture of it.... This is not the scope on it now though.

That looks awesome Bill! Really like the grain in that wood. Maybe some day when I'm REALLY inspired I'll give something like that a shot for the 880. The clam shell forearm grips might be a challenge but never say; "can't", right?

Anyone been shooting your pistols for the match? I'll tell you what, my loads are bad, my guns are bad, the targets are bad, the days bad, too comfortable, not enough wind, too hot, too cold :-\ >:( ???

We sure could use some more participants over at the Match Gate. Is the weather beginning to improve for some of you folks? Here in New Mexico we’re flirting with the 70’s, irrigating crops & the cool season veggie’s are going strong.

Well here in Ohio I’m drinking my second cup of coffee looking out at my backyard. A picture is worth a thousand optimistic words.

Looks like the ideal set-up Steve. I'd say that's about 10M out to the trailer, pop open the window & ur good to go.

Pictures like that remind me why I left Ohio for the sunny south.

That nasty white stuff missed us this time!!!

I don't have a pumper yet, but would love to join once I get one. I have been looking, hoping to hit a AG show this summer and get one. Bill C!

Anyway, here's a couple targets I did with the 760-D;
H&N sniper light (.177) 7.5gr;

JSB Exact Express, 7.87gr;

Picked up a scrap piece of plywood put some circles on it. 5 shot group with early 50's Sheridan blue streak with hole in receiver. This was shot at 10 yards. It seems the gun is pretty accurate. If you looked closely three pellets are stacked.

OUTSTANDING JOE!
Is that why it says RS2 Kodiak next to the group?
I have one of those as well, so not bustin your balls about a springer.... much.
;) ;D
Kinda fun ain't they?
Here is my best 3 shots from mine...

oops wrong picture. LOL

That's more like it... I have yet to do that with a 'Streak.

I guess I should get the boys to help me measure from the couch to the back wall of the garage. I could use the 760 variant 4 with the Weaver Dual X @ 6X's? But dang, those targets are tiny at that range!? I'm more accustomed to the Gamo 10M targets here;
