Title: Decided to try something a bit more challenging.
Post by: Kerndtc on December 27, 2017, 10:46:23 PM
In the past few weeks I have taken a little extra time and played with a few guns. A few were set up for WFTF and then my wife's gun switched over for Open class. Now after shooting my wife's gun I decided I'm scared to try and compete with her. Especially after she kicked my butt at Nationals.

I have been shooting my HW97K with a Vortek Kit installed and a  Hawke 6-24 sidewinder mounted. Fun, but a whole different animal. I recently tuned my steyr to shoot the 8.44gr AA at 795, and man oh man this is fun. The lower grain and slower velocity really calms the rifle down. Just a slight puff of air and the pellet smacks the target. Being used to a piston gun now this really is spoiling me.

I was running my numbers this afternoon and after I got pretty close I decided to shoot a 5 shot group in position at 55 yards. (Pictured below) the aim point is to the upper right and it's a .25 cal pellet hole from sighting in yesterday.

Can't wait for the next match so I can test it out on some metal targets!!

See you guys out there,

Cameron

12 fpe nail driving is growing on me.

We need to talk DAVE C into a fair weather orchard shoot at a 12 FPE limit.
be it hunter style or WFTF it would be a hoot !!

Heck yes! I'd totally be down.

I saw how well you shot 12fpe, I'm just hoping that you decide to stick to hunter lol.

Jessica and I might be able to host some fun matches soon on our new ranch! We close on the 31st of January.

Well, tried to shoot some fifty yard shots with my Varmint/CP2 pcp on Christmas day, but it was colder than minus 40 with the windchill and my second shot the hammer was so stiff the pellet didn't even leave the barrel, lol, so I knew it was time to give up and get in the house after I fired it again to clear the barrel. Too blasted cold!!

Hey, that is great news. Congratulations to you two.

And NICE grouping with that Steyr. You should probably just not shoot WFTF Piston.

Congrats on the new ranch! Awesome!

Thank you very much!

And man, I can't believe how cold that is. Cold enough to not be able to shoot a PCP!

Do you have a window you can shoot out of?

Short answer,

Yes

Had to compete with other buyers on the open market and we we're lucky our offer was the best. Not going to be cheap, but having the family ranch stay in the family is important to me.

The original deed says my great grandpa bought this property in 1911 for 13 gold coins!

Sure wish that's all we had to pay haha

I was at my parents farm and could have shot out the door but would have been in big trouble for freezing the house☺️
Hopefully it warms up next week! Only too bad I don't really have a good place to shoot where I live.
Pretty exciting you were able to keep the ranch in the family. Will be awesome to have the room and privacy. All the best on your airgun get together. Shootouts

Oh little Grasshopper, one only needs to study wife's model for success, "fear the woman who shoots only one gun!" Pick one rifle and one pistol as your competition gear and stick with them. You can shoot all the others for fun. You have the power, lets use it wisely.

Congrats on the new home, I know how much you wanted to keep it in the family. With 20 acres you know have enough room to practice with your bow  ;D

Yeah, you probably shouldn't shoot Hunter piston either!  ;D

Congrats on the ranch and having all that space.
