Title: HW barrel insert?
Post by: Korak-again on June 07, 2011, 06:48:19 AM
Is barrel insert really needed?  I would hate to have to disassemble a brand new HW30 because it has a fault from day one.

The in cert is not for the barrel it for the cocking arm and yes its needed! if its not installed it will eat up the compression tube in short order, the cocking arm rubs the tube everytime you cock the gun and cuts into the metal and over a short time it will look like you took a hacksaw to the tube! it will cut 2 lines  about 1/4'' apart from each other the withe of the cocking arm! its your rifle you decide! I wouldn't want to ruin a new gun when a 3.50$ part will cure it! its a design flaw on the HW 30/R7 and 50's size guns. :P

I picked up a Hw30 from JM not long ago. Sighted it in with about 20 shots, and haven't shot it since(other projects). Ive been reading a lot about these inserts here, went to JM's site, and see they're sold by the foot. Trying to figure out exactly where these things go if you need one a foot long! Do they go in the cocking slot of the tube where the arm/shoe rides? Or better yet, anybody have a pic of one installed?

        Thanks

You won't use all of it. I cut and sanded to fit the entire length of the cocking arm. Leave it slightly proud of the arm so the metal arm won't contact the tube.
