Title: Kral puncher jumbo dull wood stock/ true oil stock finish
Post by: AVS Stephen on December 10, 2017, 06:46:56 PM
Just bought a kral puncher jumbo. The gun is absolutely beautiful but the stock is a bit dull. I was thinking of using Birchwood Casey Tru Oil stock finish to enhance the finish of the Woodstock. Can anyone recommend a good oil finish or is the Birchwood Casey Tru Oil stock finish as good as the reviews I see on Amazon. Thank you!

Congrats on your Jumbo!!!! I LOVE MINE!!!!!! Troy Hammer worked his magic on mine and man oh man is she a shooter!!! 100yrds 1"-1.5" 5shot groups with MKII JSB pellets. Shoots the PolyMags and Kings great. 50shots on one fill at 52fpe   Can't say enough about this gun. The stock was a little on the dull side so I actually just put my last coat of finish on her. I make my own but..........Minwax Antique finish works great too.

1st step  Clean your stock with mineral sprints then lightly scuff with 1500-1800 sandpaper (optional) re clean with Mineral Spirts. Let dry, apply a liberal coat of finish, let it set 10-15min then wipe it off. If it starts to dry where you wiping just rewet and wipe here off. This seals your wood

2nd step add second coat and repeat by wiping off. Let dry at least 4-6hrs or more is better. Do this several times to build the debth you want in shine.

3rd step add your last coat like a French Polish, make a T Shirt or soft Cotten material ball add a tiny bit of finish and rub into stock. This smooths out your finish nicely.

Finial Step After stock drys 24hrs or more take a Cotten rag and add a good Lemon Oil and hand rubb her   Polish that finish to a smooth and Satin or Glossy finish.

The Tru Oil works great, I've refinished a few PB's with it and always had good results. The more work you put in, the better if comes out.

Thank you Valente and Matt. I will be sending my jumbo to Troy in January for tuning. I can't wait.

Valante its great to hear you have a great shooter. Even right of the box I love this gun but once Troy tunes it I think it's a real winner.

Thanks for the detailed info on working the stock.

Unfortunately I tried contacting Troy to get my Jumbo tuned but never heard back from him so I decided to just tune my Jumbo myself. I got it to shoot JSB 34 GRAINS pellets to 800fps for 44 shots. Not quite as good as Troy could but it's close enough and I love this gun. I drilled the transfer port and power adjuster to 11/64 inch and adjusted the hammer spring.

I did a little video on YouTube since it was quite easy to do.it under Air Velocity Sport in case anyone wants to see . These Kral guns are very good and easy to work on.

Next I will work on the stock to make this a beautiful gun. Thanks for your help on working on the stock.

If you wander the Woodworking Gate, you'll find plenty of threads on refinishing with Tru-Oil and like Chacho and Matt both mentioned, take your time and lots of patience and you'll have a beautiful stock when you're finished.
A few of mine after I got done:
Hatsan Model 95 before and after.
My twin Webley Tomahawks. Top one refinished, bottom one stock.
My Hatsan 87QE in a refinished Model 95 stock.

My guns only hang on the wall to keep them off the floor, they all get shot as regularly as I can...lol

Thank you Daniel! I plan to drill out the power adjusted cross section to larger diameter so the I can put a large diameter bolt to allow more air flow. I took the gun to the range this weekend and she shot pretty good at 92 yards. About 2 inch group of ten shots in 12mph wind.
